Red face who's in the motor trade and got 3rd party insurance on other cars?

I have posted a thread in the insurance room but its getting urgent now,

I'm basicly trying to find out what insurance companys you are with that cover you to drive another car that doesn't belone to you on a 3rd party basis,

Only please reply if you are over 25 and in the motor trade i.e. mechanic etc.

Never had probs getting this cover till now and they all say they don't offer it to people in the motor trade, I now don't have any insurance because direct line pissed me off so much i told them 'on their bike' but now so i'm i, lol

according to the broker we use and have for a very long time most people think that if you have 3rd party entitlement on there policy that you can drive any car, it only covers you for a car which does not belong to you and is insured by the owner whom you have permission from to drive it, if the cars not insured then neither are you, motor trade or other.
try direct lines other associated companies as they should offer the same cover.

It depends on the policy. I know a friend can drive a car which has no insurance, third party.

Are you after it for PJs or for just the odd time when its useful?

If your trying to get round proper insurance then you really need to think careful and go for a proper trade policy - they arnt all stuipd money

Tradex are very good for this kind of insurance and don't restrict you to non performance cars, ie they don't have a Cosworth clause as some other traders policies do.

Hope he never needs to claim as I bet he is not properly insured, every policy I have ever had has always stated the car needs to be already insured.

Do you know what company his with?

do it the right way, saves all the agro and atleast your fully covered in someones pride and joy

My policy allows me to drive any car and they DO NOT need to be insured.

I have checked this AGAIN a few months ago as this always seems to come up on passionford.

9 years ago i knocked over 2 kids who ran out in front of me while on a motorbike which i was riding 3rd party only using my (at the time) car insurance.

The bike was not mine and it was not insured by my m8.
Police were called my insurance covered me and i claimed off the 2 kids parents for the damage (they used their home insurance which covered their kids).

Only problem is if you park the vehicle up then its sat on the road not covered.

Chris is correct (obviously)

Its an old wives tale that the other car must be insured. YOU are insured not the vehicle.

Thanks for all the reply's been out all day just reading thought it and will try a few companys for a quote, there's no way i can afford a 600+ for a traders policy and at my age that'll be 800+ easy.

The cars i will drive will be insured them selfs any way, The main reason i want it is so i can borrow my mum's £800 pug 106 when my range rover breaks down and so i can pick up my sisters £300 mondeo when it needs some work and to take mates cars in to work for mot's.

Jonnyrsturbo - kwik fit won't cover me it's the one company that make's it clean when you do a quote, wish they were all like that. so check your policy if you renew they mite have changed it.

any one else got any companies i can try.

He is with Bell and he isn't mistaken because he has been stopped for driving a car which had no insurance, and was fine. I speak with a Policemen in my local and even he says I must be mistaken. So many people are wrong.

Took me a while to find somewhere too.
Im with Swinton - fully comp, covered 3rd party only to drive other cars not owned by me. Any car i drive at/for work is covered by dealership.

Tesco don't cover you but more than do i've double checked with 2 different people from there customer services. Now i can go for a drive

Oh no I've got to phone up direct line and ask why they haven't refunded the full amount as it was there fault i had to cancel not mine.

Sorry this reply isn't to the last post, but I'm insured with Grouparama too but they wont insure over group 17 on my traders!
Bit of a pisser, but if I ring them, they'll consider on a one off.Does mean the Saff will need separate policy in the end!
Oh,its a trade one too,£600 at a grand old 32.

Most ive had issues with in the past if you explain that your not going to drive the car and if need be write them a letter stating that will allow u to drive cars out of work 3rd party.

I now just tell them althou im a painter i dont work in the motor trade as all i do at mclaren is spray/prep carbon SLR panels, and theres no way they'd let me drive one on my own insurance plus any vans or company cars i drive on their insurance.
