Default chimneys

right then, i want to get rid of the chimney in the upstairs bedroom so i'll have to get some chinmet brackets slotted in above in the attic

is this a fairly easy job to do? knocking out some bricks, bolting the brackets in and then setting n the lintels to support the rest of the chinmey?

and will i need to do something to the floor as well?

not to worried about the finish on the wall as it's going ot get fitted wardrobes in but i want to make sure nothings going to fall through

any pointers?

Instead of a pair of Ł3.50 shelf brackets from B&Q, you'll need structural steelwork installed to a Structural Engineer's design, by someone that knows what they are doing.

well, that's whats on the other side and at the other house as well

although it's been 15 odd years since i've worked in the building materials industry, they used to fly off the shelves then, easily selling 2 pairs of 3 inch brackets every day of the week so perhaps some things have changed

which is why i was asking for onions from people who've done this sort of thign recently

Why leave a pile of bricks balanced on supports above your head instead of taking it down completely?

yep, best and safest is to remove it completely, fill in the floors and the roof and tile over . i dont know what the brackets your thinking of using are but the weight of the brickwork above will be quite substantial. what supports the brackets? the floor/ceiling joists?

yes my plan was take out the middle brink my brick then get a sledge hammer and flatten it iin on itself
