Bird stuck in the chimney!
Theres a bird stuck down our chimney, can hear it flapping and trying to get out
Just rang RSPCA, they said as its a gas fire, i have to get the gas board to turn the gas off before they will do anything about it, which may cost me, as its not an emergency
Now what do i do? Im not a nasty person so i dont really want to leave the poor thing there, but i also am not prepared to pay to save a rat with wings, its just the noise is annoying me every few mins its flapping like crazy.
Would it be easier to ring our plumber and get him to come and turn the gas off and try and rescue said bird?

we had a pigeon fall into ours a few years ago
BY GAWD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT A STINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we ended up removing the chimneys because that was the only way to get rid of the stench of rotten infested dead thing
d+s:
you have to take into consideration that if you have a fire in the chimney that you use or any sort of ventilation through it, when you use it and the bird blocks it up, where are the fumes going to go?
worst case scenario doesn't bare thinking about, so if you need to turn the gas off (just turn it off from the mains point at the meter? ) to get the rspca out to get rid of it then do so, it's going to save a lot of hassle in the future
just make sure you plastic sheet and tape up the door to that room and get rid of as much furniture as you can when they open it up to get the bird out, because it's going to make a mess of the room when it flutters out

Had this happen a few times. You have 3 options, leave it be, pay to have it removed or do it yourself. Yes ok i know all about this health and saftey bollocks but we've done it a few times and its a piece of piss. Turn gas off, open the front door, whip the fire out and it will fly straight out the door more often than not. Put back together and jobs a good un! One saved life, half an hour of your time and money still in your pocket.

Well, i came back from getting weighed and the roofer was here, he said oh have you got a parrot? I was like erm no.... why?
the pigeon was sat on my settee looking out of the window and flying round the front room
So i went and let him in to catch it for me. Got it out anyway, and while theyre sorting roof out theyre putting the nest things on the 4 chimney pots
It got through the gap at the top of the fire, knocked all the stones off and crapped all over my settee
So ive cleaned it up, and its gone now, thank foooook.
