Default towing laws using a dolly

can anyone shed any light on the laws with towing dolleys.

basicly i have a car with no tax or mot that i need to move. i have access to a dolly so the 2 front wheels will be off the ground.

ive been informed that if all 4 wheels are in contact with the road its illegal and ill be done for no tax, insurance and mot but if i use the dolly with 2 wheels off the ground that then becomes legal, is this right?

i need the facts please guys, not hear say.

thanks

apparently say you have a land rover that weighs 1.75t then you could tow 1.75t even if you passed after 97, this is becauase the MAM of both things weighs less than the mgw of the towing vehicle but the trailer cannot wiegh more than the vehicle towing it

Basically yes. Provided that the train weight doesn't exceed the MAM of the tow vehicle and doesn't exceed 3.5t. Remember that the weights include the driver, luggage, passengers, fuel etc..

Dollies and A frames are only intended for recovery. IMO people are taking a big risk by towing in this way for any other reason.
Just because it can tow like it doesn't mean its a good idea, many have no means of operating the towed cars brakes, effectively you're trying to stop up to and over double the tow cars weight and this can quadruple the the braking distance.

All this was covered very recently, if you search in GD theres a thread i posted in and theres some links in it too iirc.
