If its like I was stuck in the other night the visibily will be fucking awful too, not to mention the fact you wont be able to see the terrain you are walking on, it was such big flakes that it got deep very quickly, but when you put your foot down you sink straight through it, you'll be falling on your arse non stop the whole way there.

Seriously mate, dont even consider walking 10 miles in those conditions, you'll be good to no one by the time she gets home and needs someone.

Fucking hard to just sit there and do nothing when its someone you love, but you have to be sensible about the conditions and the lack of progress you will realistically make in it.

Anyone who thinks you stand a chance of doing that in these conditions hasnt a fucking clue IMHO and is just encouraging you to do something stupid and potentially dangerous.

Agreed, 15 miles in seriously deep snow and bad visibilty, you will be lucky to average 1mph at best. So if you do make it there it will be the middle of the afternoon by which point she will have made it back home worrying about where you are!

I know people will do anything for someone they love, but think about how she will feel when your found frozen to death in feet of snow.

Give it an hour or so and she'll be rescued

Must be a big releif to her now that she has spoken to them, at least she now knows if anything urgent happens she has someone on hand to help.

Just a case of sitting tight for now.

Glad to hear she has had some progress

i stopped reading at this point

him treking all that way to help her would be putting himself at risk, and watching it on the news this morning, there was a fuckload of snow and if he got stuck in it, then who would find him?

it's fine to say "be a hero" but it's not always the case

in any case, i read further in the reply screen and she's been rescued so to the snow helper peole out there who got them people out

Im home. The police pulled me out at 2.30am this morning and it took another hour to get home. I have never been so cold and yes I did go for a wee!!!!!!!

I didnt hear from the emergency services until 2.15am, it was really worrying. The chap in the post van behind me kept checking to see if I was alright. The car in front of me had a small child with them. I was meant to go to the hall over night but it was sooooo packed that they asked me to slowly make my way home.

I was glad I had a blanket to keep me warm. I think it has taught me that I need to do an advanced driving course and learn how to drive properly in such conditions.

Thanks to James for his phonecalls and texts, it showed me that he may actually like me and they certainly kept me going. Thanks for this post, it cheered me up this morning.

glad to hear that you had a blanket but what about all the other stuff that the emergency services recommend you carry in those conditions? flask of hot drink, gloves, hat, scarf, warm clothes etc? not as if we haven't had enough warning is it?

what conditions exactly?

untill 10mins before she was stuck we had NO SNOW, or ANY SIGNS OF SNOW IN THIS AREA

otherwise do you seriously think she would have travelled?

it had been raining all day.

had we have been aware of the pending snow storm, i would have popped out and hired her a uni-mog
