What models were they fitted to?? I need to convert a drum brake car to discs, is this a bolt on job or do I need to look for a beam too?? Anyone know a breaker that's likely to have these??

I think some of the 130bhp XR models had the rear disc beam too?

There was a company that did a conversion for a rear drum beam, it used focus parts. Pumaspeed or pumabuild IIRC? This allowed you to keep the rear abs on later mk6 models that the mk5's lacked.

I don't think the 4x4 ones fit Less, they are a totally different rear setup than the 2wd cars.

Oh meant to say, as far as i know, it bolts straight up, you just have to use a mk5 RS2000 handbrake cable

You have to replace the beam if you are doing it to a mk6 as the mark 6 beam is different. Mk6 doesn't use a rear ARB like the mk5s.

if the car had 130 bhp or above (some xr3i and mk5 rs2000) then it had them. and an MTX75 gearbox


some early mk6 rs2k had them too.. but then they decided drums were a good idea. IIRC

EDIT: Martin, yes you can just bolt them on (hubs calipers etc), you will need a mk5 RS2000 or 130bhp xr3i handbrake cable
and thats about it i think.. Definitly didnt change the beam when we converted my old MK6.

I did a rear disc conversion on my '96 Escort Si and was told to fit the complete beam from an RS2000, which has the added benefit of an anti roll bar. The handbrake cable can be a pain in the ass, in as much as sourcing the correct one.

Oh yeah, and after fitting the RS front and rear brakes I had to get a new master cylinder due to low efficiency on the rears.

Easy swap over as long as the car they're being transferred to isn't equipped with ABS...

hi wanting some help have a mk7 escort 1600 finesse with 14" alloy wheels would the rear disc brake set up off a xr31 mk5 fit or will the calipers catch or do i have to fit 15" wheels

Hi have an X reg escort, just used focus rear discs and calipers with focus hand brake cable. Just needed to cut a bit from rear beam to clear calipers.

thread is now 3 years out of date buddy, also no such thing as a mk7 you have a mk6, and I think you need 15" wheels when fitting the rear beam


st170 rear disc set like I have for sale at moment is the best conversion as you can use the original beam. like you have

Yeah Paul rs is spot on.
U want a mk5 rs2k rear beam with the discs etc fitted already. Along with the handbrake cable of the same model.
Then it's just a straight swap. I did this on my mk6 escort years ago. A lot of the newer (mk6) rs2k's didn't have the rear discs. And the 4x4 was different if I remember right.
Didn't really notice much difference though other than appearance. Rs2k fronts were noticeable though.
