HD,HDMI, VGA I'm confussed
Right I have an XBox 360 which until this weekend I was playing through a ten year old TV. The scart lead went from the console to the TV and the little switch was always switched to AV rather than HD.
Now this weekend I got myself a HD LCD TV pluged it all in and hooked up the 360 this time using the HD switch and the other 3 wire that split of. The picture did look alot crisper but there was no sound so i went back to the scart.
Now im being told that I can either use a VGA, or HDMI cable that microsoft sell as my new TV has both connection but which one is best. I Have no idea what if any difference there is and want to make use of the high def picture quality
Any ideas

If you use hdmi cable then that is the only cable you use. Sound and picture go through that cable.
If you are using the coloured leads you still need the red and white one which is the sound.
If using the coloured leads, you then need to adjust the setting within the setup screen on the xbox to whichever setting your tv can handle. Mine is set to 1080p because my tv can handle that resolution. some can only take 1080i
Edit to add. I thought it was only the elite (black) version of the xbox 360 which can use a hdmi cable. Is that what you have got?

Sorry its not HDMI
Im being told that by ditching the standard cable that comes when you by the 360 and using the VGA cable instead (my tv has the connetion for some reason) that the picture quality is even better plus the sound should work.

kamike
read and try and understnad what i write this time lol
You have 6 leads yes? The 3 leads that have red, white and yellow are the normal ones used for a normal telly and non hd. White and Red are sound and the yellow is the picture.
the other 3 leads - green, red and blue i think from memory are for upscaling from the xbox to hd quality. So you plug those 3 in for the HD picture plus the red and white from the standard cable for the sound into the back of your TV and leave the yellow one out.
You then need to select HD on the selctor switch and adjust the picture setting within the xbox pictures setting (on screen) to what ever your tv can support be it 1080i or 1080p - true HD
Voila, you now have xbox in HD quality
