Both look better in the older shapes, don't stand out from the basic models enough for me. i own a Mk4 R32 in peral blue (for sale if anyone is looking for one??), it looks so much harder than the the Mk5.

my vote has gone for the R32

f it's the new, then audi. If it's the late great golf 4, then it's the vw for me.

same 4wd system - all transverse engined VAG cars use Haldex part-time (normally fwd) 4wd, although Audi don't make a noise about it, preferring it to be just called "quattro"
However it does appear that later Haldex systems drive all wheels to some extent (suggesting 90/10 front/rear) in normal conditions, rather than disconnecting the rear, so maybe thats how they justify the "full-time" 4wd description.

I went for the s3 purely because of the near anti depreciation it holds...However, the R32 under some right foot sounds sublime!

Hes 22 mate, not 32 with kids and responsibilities

That amount of money he can have a flash car to enjoy when young and get himself accomodation.

I wouldnt buy new though, second hand low miles so someone else pays the depreciation. That way he can have his cake and eat it.

Warren, I've lied to you all these years. I'm 55, Ben's father and he is locked in the boot of his car which I sold without permission. You can't buy the R32 new anymore.

Between the R32 and the S3 I would have the S3 because they have more potential. A friend of mine had a mk4 R32 the engine light was always coming on when he first got it due to various problems with a secondary air system?? (not sure if thats the right term for it?) and when it was finally fixed and he could enjoy it the car ate more fuel than a jumbo! Average was about 22mpg, he now has an Evo VIII MR 340 and thats better on fuel and miles miles quicker! I agree the sound of the R32 is fantastic but imo thats all its got going for it if I were looking for a good sounding V6 I would get an Alfa 147 GTA but out of that hot hatch group that was about when the Mk4 R32 was built over all I would have a FRS

Well neither due to the piss poor fuel ecomomy. I had the old VR6 and that was bad enough!

But if i had to choose, well i alreday have a VW Gt sport, so it would have to be the R32.

Swear these are both V6? s3 used to be 1.8t?

Anyway i prefer the old shapes of both, but the S3 is the better looking and probably quicker

Vaux had that nearly 20 years ago.
I used it as fwd most the time for better low down pull in normal driving, and better economy.

S3 for me if turbo'd, although not keen on either for the performance to mpg ratio being poor.

How do people like the Mk4 R32? Doesn't do anything for me, just looks like a normal mk4 with a bit of body styling. And a mk4 golf must be the most boring car in the world is as common as a chav at 1am on a Friday night. An R32 mk5 in real life looks the nuts. Isn't as subtle as people think imo.

The S3 is the 2.0 Turbo engine, similair to that in the Golf GTi and the same as that in the Golf Edition 30. So will the S3 be much better on fuel then?

Benni.
