i have a very old magazine with a rs1800 for sale with a rs nosecone front end, not many people know about that car, well they do now, also the red rs1800 belonged to a geezer in the rsoc, 15 years ago you would of heard of him as he was about all over the place, he and his dad had a few tasty rs's that won concourse

fact, fords that have stopped being made and are late registered like j reg escort rs turbos,g reg xr2's, d reg grannie mk2's,d reg mk3 escort rs turbos are unwanted cars that ford couldn't sell, they are not special in any way shape or form, there was quite a few 2wd sierra cosworths on hreg
i even saw f reg capri 280's, k reg tranny mk3's not new gen,
basically look at rs200's the first ones were b reg's,you could get them new in 92 because they were unwanted. nowt special about metal lying around unwanted imo

He remembers the Birmingham superprix being held, cos the Teams with Group A RS500's used the workshops after hours and over night to prep the cars. The dealership was open and still selling cars whilst the race was going on!
I asked him if he had any photos from "back in the day" but he never saw any point in them, as it was much like any other day he says.

Ah, i was under the impression that they used/bought the idea from Boeing, which used it already in their 747s. Anyway, as far as i know Ford was the first to fit it to cars.

i'd have to disagree to that, don't you mean every classic T-xxxxxx key will LOCK every other ford with that type of key?

I've always found it funny that these late registered cars are so sought after.
The actual reason of their desirabilty in later life is due to them originally being unwanted when they were new!

In 1945-1946 when the war was over, Ford was about to buy the car factories in KdF(Stad des Kdf-Wagens, wich became Volkswagen, and the city now known as Wolfsburg) But withdrew since Russia still held foot not too far away in Northeast Germany, and were afraid Russia had other plans. ( cold war was to take shape )
and offtopic
Now there was this Brittish officer Ivan Hirst. He actually did love the little car which gave a big stirr. A brittish officer fell in love on a product of their biggest enemy. He let the factory be renovated und Brittish supervision and started to produce and sell the beetle. And in 1948 the German technicus Heinrich Nordhoff became general director of Volkswagenwerke by advise of Hirst. And in 1949 the Brittish goverment gave the factory back to Germany.

should also point out due to the recession ( there was one in 92 don't ya know) loads of ford rs's got left unwanted due to insurance premiums going sky higfh, i remember 3dr cosworths for 4-5 grand and really nice 3 year old sierra sapph cosworths for 3.5 grand in the trade, the cars were like 15 grand the year before on the forecourts, unless you were trade you couldn't get insurance.
and so this meant that ford had cars that were old spec and lying around being registered as new cars to people who did not know about this, every so often you would hear about people who bought "new" 4x4 sierra cosworths in 93 and found out they were 91-92 models.
also one other funny thing was ford knocked 5 grand off the price of a brand new sierra cosworth 4x4 in 92,they were 19,995 and in the autotrader and motoring news there was used ones for more than ford were selling brand fire new uns.
that fooked the job up no probs.
