the original escort cosworth was born out of a mk4 escort and taken to the head honchoes at ford, they drove it all day, and loved it.. the original first ever escort cosworth was an E plate.
its all in the story of the cosworth book i bought from gaydon museum.

The escort cosworth was developed BEFORE the sapphire 4x4 cosworth. !!
The escort cosworth front splitter was added to increase the length of the car to make it eligable for touring car racing

500 rs500's were not built here in daventry becuse so many parts were stolen. fact. also the parts depot here in daventry still has parts for fords as old as the mk1 capri. and still has a massive collection of cosworth parts even tho you cant buy them anymore. they are still there.. fact!

All escort mk4 doors are mk3 doors. They didn't bother changing the presses. They still have the hole at the top for the lock rod even though on the mk4 the lock rod is in the centre of the door.
