Default checks to do on a car before buying it (HPI etc)

what checks do people reccomend doing before buying a second hand car?
and where are some good places for having the carried out?

i saw a advert saying it does everything with a text for £3 but wasnt sure how good that would be.

All depends on value ?
For a £250 sh1tter just make sure its got an engine and not a skoda
For £25.000 you might also want to check the paperwork lol
