I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
Had this happen on mine turned out to be the alternator to battery cable was shot,
If its the same as mine follow the cable back from the alternator and where it enters the loome strip back the tape and you will find that there is a spliced joint where it joins onto the thicker cable which goes to the battery, this is a weak point "well it was on mine anyway"
Try wiggling the cable about at that point (before stripping the loome) with the engine running and the multi meter connected and if it's a bad connection the voltage should go up and you will hear the engine hunt.

The rectifier/regulator has some goosed diodes, not uncommon, but cheap to fix, about £45, the blue "IND" wire is ok as the light would not be on otherwise, as it gets it earth from the alternator to illuminate the bulb, then this terminal changes to positive so extinguishing bulb, you could check by touching a LIVE onto the round "IND" terminal after removing blue wire with engine running, if it does not alter the charge a new alt is needed.
