Default Cutting strut tops!

Is it possible to cut the strut tops of and extend them, so you can lower the car without having to use harder shorter springs??
Think this is what they do 2 the wrc escorts but i might be barking up the wrong tree!
Or is there a easer way of doing this?

Wouldn't have thought so tbh, if you raise the strut tops, you'll still have the same amount of travel and smash your inner wings to bits.
The strut tops on the WRC cars are just fully adjustable and have all the adjusting gubbins on the top making it look taller.I may be wrong though, but i'm pretty sure thats it.

Thing is i want it low (not stupidly low) but have a nice ride (not super bumpy as it is at the moment) but also be tight into the corners!
Talk about wanting it all hey! lol
the low and nice ride i think i could get buy cutting the stut tops and getting them extended! as for the tight into the corners im stuck! do u have 2 use stiff springs or can u do somthing with the setting of the coilover/ shock????

smash your inner wings to bits shouldnt be a problem as im not planning on extending them loads and at the same time i will be getting all the wings flared as much as possable!

WRC's have the tops cut off and lifted up with a differant fitment to take the world top mount mate

there you go mate

so yes, its fully possible, but, the geometry changes will need a serious amount of work

not that its massively (see sig) lowered just a combernation of crap roads were i live and lowering makes it crap on anything but smooth roads, and since im doing a 1.8t conversion on it i wanted 2 make it more road/ road trip friendly!

I used a coilover kit for a Seat Ibiza for my old Polo mate, made a load of difference as the VW specific kits had more lowering avaliable and much higher poundage springs!! Most likely because VW people like lowering their cars by 200mm and running 10x13inch BBS splits hence cannot have suspension travel......... Twats

What brand of coilovers do you currently have? Wouldn't it be better to try a different brand before cutting your car apart? Ive heard varying opinions on the harshness of different coilover kits. Apparenetly the KW ones give excellent ride.

Whats the spring rates? 2.25 inch springs are about 12 quid each mate, cheap as fuck. Experiment with different springs before cutting up your shell as Agar says.

All depends on what you consider to be a harsh ride. I know someone with the same type of Golf GTI Anniversary as me, but hes running KW's and says his ride is far smoother than the standard kit which is pretty harsh.

sounds like youre trying to have your cake and eat it to be honest. but first things first, i bet youre running spring rates that are too high.

just remember once you lower it it WILL handle like shit unless you sort the rest of the geometry out, and it will be bumpy as there's less play in the suspension to damp out the bumps.
