Plasma or LCD help please ????
I have no idea about t.v's and am looking for a new one.
I'm after a 44-50" bad boy, but whats the pro's and cons of plasma vs. lcd?
Any advice please?
This sort of thing.

Depends what you watch more.
LCD for full HD and watching ALOT of HD material
Plasma for SDTV and normal DVD, but still looks good on HD, but not full 1080 so not on the same level as LCD when HD material is watched.

plasma cant produce the same quality pic (although they are improving),and have a short lifespan. After around 7 years of avarage use, they need re gas-ing which is expensive........and not worth doing
Plasmas are cheaper, and can be bought in larger sizes,.
Funny thing is,its cheaper to produce any flat screen t.v over the conventional tubed tv.......yet they charge an earth for the flats as they're what people want....

regassing is an urban myth!
IMO the best TV's in the world are Pioneer Plasmas, full 1080p HD panels, brilliant for everything!!
general rule of thumb for me tho, if you watch a lot of fast moving sport (football) and normal TV, get a plasma
If you play a lot of computer games, get an LCD (no Screen Burn like plasmas can suffer from)

And like i said, plasmas always seem cheaper than lcds,so i took it that what they've said must be correct........
could be wrong though.
Ive got a sony lcd and cant complain about it......get what you pay for....although sony's are a little overpriced.
Although i use mine on hd for my xbox360,and films. Dont really watch t.v with it.

If i was looking to buy a TV of that size i would go for one of these
http://www.sharp.co.uk/X20-HD-1080p-...46x20e&bklist=
46" full 1080P TV, every input / output you could imagine, free delivery, free funky glass stand for it, 5 year warranty
£649
Sure its not the best TV out there, and the LCD vs Plasma arguement will go on for years to come, but it depends IMO on what exactly your using it for, both have advantages, both have disadvantages,
But for the TV per ££, you really cant go wrong in my opinion,
(If you actually wanted to buy one, PM me and i'll send u the discount code )

people who sell TV's 90% of the time dont know shit, and are your average "salesman" if you go to a proper hifi/TV specialist they will tell you different.
my best mate works for sony as a technical trainer to all the sony centre staff, so he knows lots about TV's

The original LCD you had in mind, the Sony KDL46W4000 is one of the best LCD's available.
If you can afford it - go for it.
As far as plasma goes... Other than the Pioneer Kuro series, they really can't hang with the higher spec'd LCD's.
But then again, the Pioneer plasma is THE BEST screen out there.
It's just fooking expensive..
I'd go for the Sony mate, you won't be dissappointed.

That was about 2-3 years ago so things may have changed thesedays...
I never stated i knew them to be facts, only on what id heard,seen....I never really looked too deep into exact facts/figures as its all a bit boring to me lol
Had a look on that site mate, and it seems to be the same sort of thing going on,some saying plasma, some saying lcd.
I think it is just down to budget, and what you watch or do with the t.v on which to go for......
like i said,i use mine for hd gaming, and films so looking at that forum, lcd was right for me. Plus i got mine very cheap lol so im happy lol

So why are LCD 'TVs' so much more expensive than LCD monitors?
I dont get it. We all know TV tuners are cheap as shit (freeview boxes are like 20 quid retail) so why the massive price difference?
Until they start pricing these things more fairly they can whistle for my business imo.
Aside from that, I'd go plasma. LCDs dont really like weird resolutions (ie, normal telly).

Take a look at the panel sizes for a start,
A 19" LCD tv is not much more then an equal spec 19" monitor.
But you cant really compare the cost of a 37" LCD to a 22" monitor can you?

A 19" LCD TV is a lot more expensive than an LCD monitor. Usually at least 50% more expensive.
And no, you obviously cant compare two totally different things. That and the fact LCD screens seem to be priced exponentially when it comes to size.

19" TV £139.99 - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/133835
So yeah u pay a bit more, but taken into fact you get the TV tuner, all input / output options, built in speakers, remote control etc etc its not that huge a difference really

Still cheaper to buy a monitor and external tuner but then I guess its supply and demand. They probably dont shift half as many integrated models as they do 'vanilla' pc monitors.
I'd wait til Christmas if I were buying right now, especially with the recession looming. I recon there'll be some proper sweet deals in the sales.
Prices are already falling with no real affect, fingers crossed they end up near giving them away.
