The narrator marries the older woman.
This results in the woman's daughter becoming his stepdaughter.
Subsequently, the narrator's father marries the older woman's daughter.
The woman's daughter, being the new wife of the narrator's father, is now both his stepdaughter and his stepmother. Concurrently, the narrator's father, being his stepdaughter's husband, is also his stepson-in-law.

Your cousins kids are your first-cousins once-removed.
You don't get to be an uncle to cousins kids even though you are so much older than them.
We had this discussion on holiday this year when my cousin's kids started calling me uncle - soon put them right!!!
You are an uncle only to your brother's and sister's kids, then a great-uncle to the kids kids and so on.
Your cousins kids are your first-cousins once-removed.

You are making the same mistake I made on the terminology - it's "once-removed" for kids of cousins, and "second-cousins" are for kids of the kids - or something like that - focusV8's table makes it all plain (once I got my head around it!)

cousins are of the same generation as you and your siblings
nieces and nepwhes are of the next generation the same as your kids
uncles and aunts are one generation upwards in line with your parents
so how can his kids be my seconds cousins?
thats confused him quite a bit but there were 2 of us arguing the point one way and 2 arguing he other, all cousins, all with kids, all a mess
