clutch
alright passion ford users just picked up my cousins series two off him at the weekend the clutch pedal is really hard as if it is catching on something but its not i have changed clutch rachet, cable,it seems alright but never felt right my cousin did have a genuine ford clutch fitted a while ago when he re newed his gearbox any suggestions
ps the car drives fine no harsh pull aways all smooth with no crunchs or anything if it is the clutch what do you guys recommed ie standard ford or pattern ones the car has had a fully rebuilt engine ported and polished head, piper t2 cam (lol) standard intercooler it will be pushing about 16 holding a bar of boost cheers

So the pedal is very hard? Does it get progressively hard and then suddenly "snap" and go light at the bottom?
Does it ever judder when pulling off or is it ever difficult to pull off smoothly?

its not hard hard but you can feel a big resistance in it no snaps or creaks its not as smooth and soft like my series one ,
thats the thing it will pull away proper smoothly with no grab or judder it will always engage in gear hot or cold
im a mechanic so i just wanted to know if their was any thing else before i rip the box out
me and my cousin have put about 4 cables on it and about 3 clucth rachets it will be better but still not right it feels as if something is gonna give way the release arm on the box is all straight i have tried putting a washer in between cable and box to raise it a tooth more on the rachet but yet this is still no good

When i say "snap" i didnt mean making a noise, but i had a clutch before that felt incredibly springy, and got harder and at the bottom would just suddenly go loose.
It wouldn't ever be the ratchet making it hard for your info, all it does is self-adjust, when they go its just hard to get a biting point. If the cable is free it wont do that. The washer thing wont ever work on these either because of the adjuster, unless you put so many on it cant adjust anymore (!!!! a LOT of washers)
Now you say its had a clutch. I reckon they will have put a new clutch plate in, and not changed the pressure plate. The springs snap over the years, and the more springs snap, the less springs there are to spread the load over, hence a hard springy pedal......
Thats what mine was, when more than half the springs snapped the thrust bearing destroyed itself.

it had a three part clutch from fords my cousin got the part froms fords as his old man works their it the stiffness feels the same throught out
when you remove the cable from the release arm you can still hear the thrush bearing moving freely with no more travel as in my series one its just a bit mind bogerling
if the spring had snapped tho ill have quite a bad judder when pulling away which i havent

I mean the diaphram springs? Mine never juddered, but was stiff to push down. Once i changed the clutch it was like a different car.
Clutches are wierd things. My current car had a new clutch when i put the engine in, thrust bearing rattles like fuck when you are partially using the clutch

I really couldnt tell you to be honest mate, my RS is standard at present. All the clutches ive fitted have been 3rd party ones and they all work ok and have a nice easy pedal. Why don't you whip the box off and see whats what. I find the release fork and bearing face being dry can make quite a difference.
