Makes me laugh how people ask a serious question ( i know benni gets it ripped out of him but it was a straight question) and if someone makes a comment that someone thinks is wrong they're morons, retards etc....
I offered my opinion and i stand by that. Nobody has offered a good argument for part worns other than cost.

I don't care who's used part worns for 0000's of miles fault free or had x brand for 20 quid.
I transport MY family in MY car 100% satisfied that i have spent good money on good brand new tyres, if i have a puncture i get it fixed if the tyre is still well within legal limits at a reputable tyre place that i have used for all my cars and trust. Piece of mind is priceless. If theres a problem with a tyre i take it back to be dealt with. I've yet to have a problem with any new tyres. I only ever change tyres in pairs but usually i change front to back and change a set at a time. I've used part worn, budget, and all levels of branded tyres and based on that i will spend MY money on new branded tyres. I change my tyres before they're desperate for replacement and when i know i can afford them so the cost isn't a deciding factor.

Tyres can sustain damage thats invisible to inspection thats a fact. Nobody knows how the tyres have been run before. For the sake of saving a few quid i'd rather not bother.

As for remoulds they are subject to type approval now and have come along way in terms of safety and development. I wouldn't fit them to anything decent but plenty of 4x4s use remoulds (damage a £40 tyre as opposed to £80+ bfg) as do rally cars and nearly 50% of commercial vehicles use them. i didn't say they would replace branded tyres just that if cost is the main factor in deciding what to fit then they're an option. Type approval means they have to be tested to a set standard and "e" marked part worns are only inspected not tested. The point being a retread is tested before and after retreading and type approved, you have a small area of come back should you have any sort of failure or fault. Failures are nowhere near as common as they used to be and yes i've seen them where the tread has come away.

Sorry mate but i used to fit tyre's, not just car i did everything upto and including earthmover's.
I was the mug you see changing a super single on a truck on the hard shoulder, and you will not get any guarantee on any remould from any tyre house. Well not one that's worth a fly's wank.

End of day it's what you feel happy with.

A really good mate of mine has worked at a tyre house for the last 10 years and that place has stopped selling remould's but continue selling part worn's, why would they?

Tyre's are not as fragile as people believe.

As soon as any tyre has been fitted and inflated you can tell if it's a good un or not.
Probably one of the only thing's on a car you can.

A part worn michelin or goodyear is far superior to any remould or budget tyre.
Will cost less and probably last longer.

Absolutely. If people are happy with part worns then so be it and i don't doubt the performance of part worn branded against budgets etc... i've had budgets before and they'd lock at 30 slowing (not anchoring up) for roundabouts in the wet!!! But choosing between part worn or new in the same tyre i'd get the new one dearer or not perhaps i'm lucky i can afford to do so (i'm by no means flush at all!)

Cost just isn't a factor in how i choose my tyres therefore i don't need to make that choice. i would choose a brand and new over any other option. Its just piece of mind. All tyres can fail I just don't see the point in buying a nice motor and running it cheap just as people getting the budget tyres on wheel packages when the brands are usually iro £50 more. If your old smoker never breaks the nsl and gets you from a to b fair enough run it for peanuts.

My tyre place stopped selling remoulds primarily because at the time supply dried up for a while. Also in terms of lifespan and performance is there any point in a remould against a budget? They're both shit.
They also sell part worns. I asked for a cheap tyre and they asked if i was getting rid of the car soon as i wasn't i came away with a kumho at 43quid. So not a budget/remould/part worn and not too dear. Tyre was up to the job.

If people are comfortable with their decision then good luck to you. I think SOME people are under an illusion that a £20 michelin/pirelli part worn will be ok as its a michelin/pirelli.

I'm not out to disprove people or argue. Plenty of people share thoughts that part worns aren't the best idea. If we are all honest what would we choose ultimately?

As i read benni's post i imagined that it's obviously a family car and the fact there was children in it would suggest to me that it wasnt going to be doing trackday's or ball's out speed.

But we would ultimatly and should alway's buy the best that we can afford.

1. because remoulds are shit
2. because they pay fuck all for part worns and it's almost guaranteed to be cash in hand

my car is -60mm and then some. the camber is silly, and tyres last me about 12 weeks each at the front, I can get toyos, falkens, and other "quality" brands with 3 or 4mm on the for a tenner each.

ever seen rally teams use second hand rally tyres the top teams like prodrive m-sport etc etc use, they sell off second hand their tyres and wheels yes wheels the sort that have been banged,crashed,ragged,and walloped to teams that snap them up and re use them,its right that a expert can determine the condition of a tyre,the place i know use a machine to inflate the tyres off the wheels and pressure test them and check for bubbles when immersed in water.
