IPhone Users?
I know there's a few IPhone users on here and I picked mine up yesterday...
Im currently trying to find decent software for converting ringtones and video files, but is there any decent free software? I dont mind paying for an all-in-one package, but Apple dont seem to do one.
Also, what applications are worth downloading on the phone?
Any help would be appreciated

I haven't downloaded any apps for mine yet except the facebook one that's pretty shit to be fair.
Videora is what I use for converting vids but you may struggle with ringtones, I've still not worked them out yet. I think it's pretty shit that you can't just select a ringtone from your memory!

That's what I'm posting off also lol.
Fletch, I asume your trying to drag and drop your video file, you have to synchronize them instead.
How much is this app we're talking about, also, anybody have any decent games?

Itunes will make ringtones for you from any song you have on your computer - for free! It's long winded, but if it's a song you already have and you can't find a ringtone version or want a specific custom one, then it's usefull to know.

It still cracks me up about people who don't know what the iPhone can and can't do. I'll be the first to aggree it's missing major tricks from standard, but I've got a guy at work who's loves blackberry's and loves to slate the iphone, so today he see's I have one and starts off;
HIM - They're rubbish, my blackberry is so much better - yours can't even forward text messages!
ME - Err, yes it can
HIM - Well it can't do MMS messages
ME - Yes it can
HIM - No zoom on your camera tho!
ME - No, it DOES have zoom
HIM - Can't take video's tho!
ME - Yes it can
HIM - Err.....

I should say "jailbreak" it if your's is a 3G handset (guessing it is) as you can't unlock these yet

Kris - you need to update the iphone using iTunes to get the current 2.1 firmware (2.0.1 and 2.0.2 are old now). This will relock and unjailbreak it.
You then use the above links to unlock it and jailbreak it again, but this time on 2.1 firmware.
I am pretty sure you need to be on the PROPER iTunes installed 2.1 BEFORE you use the above unlock proceedure

Ask here for better info that I can give - I'm fairly new to the whole jailbreaking and firmware updating game;

But what I love about it, is the WAY it does what it does. The mobile version of Apples OS X just, well, works. It's slick and fast, mobileSafari is a joy to use, I love how countless webpages are automatically reformated to "iphone" pages (for optimisation(sp) of the browser) and how full web pages can be fully displayed (when I browse PF on my iPhone I can have it show exactly what it would show if using Safari on a Mac or IE on a PC)
I love it's mail client, which coming from a Gmail user, is saying something! Most mail clients are nightmares for gmail users, but Mail just well, works really.... Tho I do miss my gmail loading in conversations like it does in the web browser - but then I can access that fine from mobileSafari anyway - in full page or "iphone mode"
I like it's shortcuts, I like the apps, I love how it looks, I like it's intergration between contact info and email/sms/mms/pics/web pages, I like it's size, the feel of it, the customisation (after you jailbreak it )
I just like it really As I think a lot do......

But did you have it jailbroken on 1.1.4 before you had to update to 2.1?
I bought mine new but already Jailbroken in March and have had it on Vodafone since then.
I know it is possible to have it Jailbroken on 2.1 but its the process of updating to 2.1 from a jailbroken 1.1.4 phone that i'm unsure about!!

No, I bought mine already on 2.1 - I just unlocked it an jailbroke it onto it's existing 2.1
Hence why I said ask on there as they know far more than me about upgrading etc...
Can't have been new tho if it was already jailbroken? Or do you mean new, THEN you jailbroke it?

Bought it from good old ebay from a well recommended seller was Brand new other than being taken out box to be unlocked.
Cheers though will ask on the forum.

I don't like the battery life - 1 day! Tho in defence, it's the older iPhone and I use it a LOT
I don't like how it's tied to iTunes for EVERYTHING! You can't put anything on it without iTunes - contacts, pictures, music, apps etc.... Tho again in defence, with the right apps (even "legal" ones from the App Store) you can set it up as a wifi hard disk and put all sorts of stuff on it over a wifi network without using iTunes - same when using it with SSH, after jailbreaking
I don't like that as standard it doesn't do MMS, forwarding texts, video recording, no camera zoom.
I still don't like that it doesn't have Java or full Flash support - tho so far only one thing has failed to work in that region and that was a video on facebook, so not like the end of the world YouTube, Youporn, BBC iPlayer etc all work fine
I don't like that the Bluetooth isn't worth a wank - I've not turned it on once since I got it It's pointless unless you have a Parrot system in car, or you're a knob that wears bluetooth ear pieces
I HATE that it doesn't support copy n paste text! FFS Apple!
But I still love it

Cant remember them all but things like turning down the brightness and not having the email always automatically checking for new email this really does rinse the battery just check it yourself when ever you need to.
Search on it though mine lasts a couple of days.

I'm quite a heavy user when it comes to texting etc, and email is on 15min fetch, so thats not helping.... But it's also a bit of a toy at the mo as it's new (to me) so I can't help playing with it lol)
Been quite good today tho - only half battery gone (so far )

Warrenty isn't a problem as far as I know as you can just restore the phone to a non-jailbroken state (make a back up of the original state before jailbreaking then you can restore in iTunes) and yes 2.1 can be broken - mines on 2.1 and unlocked and jailbroken...
See links above I supplied for it...

Hello people
I've got an iPhone 2G and I've upgraded/jailbroken/unlocked every firmware since 1.1.4.
Upgraded to 2.0, then 2.0.1, and last week 2.1.
Its really simple, download the 2.1 firmware as a file, bootloader 3.6 and 4.2 files, and get yourself over to http://blog.iphone-dev.org, and read the section "Redmond, we have a pwnapple".
Looks like firmware 2.2 is imminent!
As for "bricking" your iphone, its 100% impossible. There are tools to get it back should the worst happen, so dont worry
