people are still entitled to their own opinions on here tony, and id hate for peole not to discuss things openly on here, its only when it gets silly and repetitive that i feel its uneccessary.

Whats with all the cloak and dagger stuff?

I dont own the car myself but I'd be interested in how it works.
I cant imagine how they've added adjustable traction control to something thats totally mechanical and reasonably low tech.
There must be some other electronics/servors/stepper motors/etc.. involced somewhere...??

The problem as I see it is that Mike gets the last say as he can post when a thread is locked
perhaps mike would be so kind as to answer this technical query and i promise not to correct it

Tony,

dont divorce yourself from reality mate. If Mike has a problem leave him to it.

This thread seems interesting, so your technical input is required like 10 posts ago

Does it work off the brakes Tony? Using sensors to detect when the wheels slipping?

The next stage is to get the electronics fitted. The system comprises of a small wiring loom, a controller box, a dashboard control and the optional spark control box. These were mounted under the dashboard and in the driver's footwell. The dashboard control was mounted in the central console where I could at get it when strapped into the car. The control allows the degree of control to be adjusted and also has the all important launch control button. The system also has a data logging facility and a serial connection is provided to plug into the onboard data logging PC. This gives detailed analysis of what is happening to the wheels and the car when driven. It can even detect when wheels lift off the ground!
The variable control is an important feature. Many standard traction control systems err on the safety side and will prevent any wheel slippage at all. This can prevent experienced drivers from driving the car in the way they want. At one sprint, on frustrated competitor was seen with a mobile phone in one hand talking to Ford about ways that the traction control could be disabled on a Puma. Every time he started to push the car, it kicked in and slowed him down. The variable control allows the driver to select the amount of intervention that is required. It can even be switched off. In practice, this could almost be described as a tail slide control. The less intervention, the more the tail would slide and the more correction the driver would need to provide.

it monitors the wheel speeds and uses the non driven wheels as it's reference depending on this difference it will limit the engines output by varying amounts upto a it's most severe point of total engine cut.The amount of desired wheel spin can be adjusted by the pot on the dash, you do not want no wheel spin

first you need to tell me who you are as apparently i don't like you

traction control was never fitted to the rs500 touring car it was not allowed in the regs
yours will have been fitted by a later owner as a retro fit

Tony the car was used by the public who won competitions to have a go on the track (with a race driver) and get a touring car feel but with half the power and they fitted traction to help keep the car straight.

So it monitors the speed of the wheels then cuts engine power when one slips a lot?
So it cant 'move power' from say one wheel to another, like modern stability systems can?
How does it monitor wheel speed? Is it some kind of dodgy belt system like the ABS on RSTs?

Sounds very interesting. I know traction control was fitted to later granadas/scorpios. I wonder if you could hack about that later system to fit a cos... (shooting the breeze here as I dont own either...)
