Default What do you do for security when leaving your car somewhere....?

always worry about certain cars i've owned when leaving them in car parks that they'll get nicked. especially cinema complex or parking near work!

even of my driveway i get worried.

apart from alarm/imob what do you do to make it a harder to nick?

my mates dad takes something out of the distributor cap when he parks his van!

i usually just lock and arm the alarm. but if im leaving it for a few night, i

lock it,
arm alarm ( movement sensors)
crook lock
remove coil wire

the coil wire that goes through my bulkhead , once disconnected, wont let the car start, so i made a plug lol.

crude, VERY crude, but it works. obviously it could still be towed, but fuk it, if they want it that much they can have it

I have a sensible car for the daily stuff that gets left places. The RS's are locked, alarmed, immobilised and Disclocked, and that's when they are in my garage

Take at least two ht leads off. the theving cu*ts wont carry any round with them, or probley even thing to look under the bonnet. Failing that take your own wheel clamp.

I use my cars for what i want, if i'm going somewhere really shitty i have a run a round, i have always used the RS's for shopping etc... i always park my car with its front end against something, steering on full lock with a plated dicklock, that way if thay want to tow it away they will have to put the front wheels on castors, thus taking them more time & making noise, the harder it is for them to take the less they will think about it!

Personally I think your paranoid. IF they want it they'll take it regardless of if its in your garage or in a carpark.

I know someone who woke to find 3 burglars downstairs looking for the keys to his new M5. Also found the keys to his wifes Q7!!.

Amazingly both returned in 2 days due to having a tracker fitted.

its not just the value of a car to consider...

My 911 I would and do leave anywhere and everywhere.... I'd did and would alway that to someone where dodgy rather than my R34 GTR!

That thing was a nightmare... lots of theft attempts on that chavvy fooker!

Not much I can do, just lock the doors. I have a cassette player that can be seen from outside so hopefully that deters the casual bored smack head.

I've even left the bit of wood in my rear door quarter as I'd rather they brake in here again than smash another window.

The Minor was so much easier to live with. You could leave it unlocked with the windows down and nobody would want it. I just stepped out, pushed the door to and walked away.
For some reason 'piece of shit' mk4 escorts are all the rage...

You have a car that's rare, modified or stands out in any way, it can become a target of some sort.

If it's rare, expensive, modded or whatever, it'll be a target for vandals, jealous people etc more than anything else. The only people who would be likely to nick it would be professional thieves who really wanted the car.

Plus for some reason if you have a nice car that you take care of, it seems more susceptible to bumps and scrapes in car parks.

If it looks scruffy and tatty, it's more likely to be nicked as your average opportunist will think it's less likely to be protected and easy to steal etc.

Hence why I drive a MK3 Mondeo Ghia X TDCi Estate virtually everywhere now, as it fits into neither category as best it can really, looks like a Joe Average's car, reasonably new, so has decent security as standard, doesnt stand out in any way and goes largely un noticed, and if someone did bump it accidentally or key it on purpose, I'm not overly worrried.

but if they cant replace something that means alot to me can you , the car had sentinmental value , and i spent alot of blood sweat and money on it ,

and my original post came across wrong , i only give him a tenner the once after that and a spin round the car park , i didnt have to to fuckall , he would gladly keep an eye on it ,

but yeah , im your insurance is rock bottom with that attitude ,,

ahh kool, so they're crap?

seeing as you answered, what would be the reason to full lock the wheels?

makes it more difficult to drag or tow it onto a trailer or wagon, the thieves may have to smash the steering lock to move it wich takes time and thieves don't do time! lol

If you put wheels in full lock and steering lock is on, and say your car is in your garage, someone isn't going to find it easy to simply pull the car out if the wheels are facing the wrong direction, the car is just going to roll into the garage wall etc. also more force is going be required to get the car moving.
