And a 1500quid SX will not be that bulletproof or good at all.

Awesome base for a good car, not great for a budget car to abuse with hardly any mods.

Indeed, SPOT ON!

Its not intended as the basis for some project, its just to buy, abuse, crash, replace, and not lose much cash doing so!

Its for trackdays, not the internet

MK4 Supra non-turbo

Sure, at Ł1500 there won't be many options, but I've seen plenty around Ł2k, and a nice manual for sale not long back at Ł1800. And there's always room for a bit of haggling with advertised prices...

Should be solid and reliable, no turbo to worry about, should be a decent enough spec to shed as much weight as possible from and then get it on the track

220BHP, RWD etc etc

You won't get "awesome" for Ł1500, but why would it be any worse than a 325i/328i etc?

He's as good as said that forced induction is out of the question, so...

Parts costs for toyotas are a lot higher than for a bmw generally IME.

Not a bad suggestion though, they actually corner fairly well.

Based on the other thread, if comedy is required then I think we should paint "desert shower" (not really quick enough to qualify as a storm) and "toilet systerns" on it

Did you rag the shit out of them for an entire day at a time at a racetrack, continually swapping drivers and going straight back out, only stopping to refuel them then back on with the mayhem?

Easy to say that now, but people buying them are still going to fear the worst IMO. There are plenty of dogs amongst the good ones whichever way you look at it

If not a BMW how about an Audi A4 of some variation. Ain't too clued up about audi range of engine but quick look on pistonheads suggests 2.4, 2.6 and 2.8 and, dare I say it, the 1.8T. In your price range as well.

Shit....are audis FWD???

yes everyday, twice on sundays

on a serious note, ANY car for Ł1500 that is seriously abused on a track is not really gonna be bullet proof is it ?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1997-BMW-328I-...d=p3286.c0.m14

Sure that could be had under budget, plus should recoup a bit of cash selling some of the unwanted bits

325i's are cheaper, but if it were me, I'd have to go for the 328i

BMW straight 6 engines do just seem to take everything you can throw at them.

Bushes etc will of course have a had time though, and I dare say all the wheel bearings will need doing relatively quickly etc.

Dont know till we have bought one.

Rich has just shelled out on a new turbo, so will need a month or two for his funds to recover anyway I think, lol

No rush, dont need it till end of december as unlikely to do any other trackdays before then anyway
