Not RWD though.
I quite like that

But Im not convinced it will be reliable if HAMMERED on track for hours at a time, on a 2 hour evening session the MOST time it would be not on the track, is 20 mins total, and we will all be driving it flat out the whole time.

Plus like you say, not rwd, if we cant go sideways with rwd fun and a welded diff, then we may as well go for a FWD hatchback which make great cheap fun trackday cars, just not as much fun as going sideways.

Omega kind of ticks all the boxes, but ultimately I think id sooner trust a bmw straight six for reliability than a vauxhall v6

Nissan 200SX? cheap to modify and you can get S14 manuals for just over Ł1k. Only problem is they are turbo...

Other than that your only realy choice is a mk1 mr2 (which are supposed to be great handlers) or a beemer

Same here.

An S14 make sense but it would be too tempting to 'up the boost' and then its not reliable without supporting mods.

Fixing it isnt a problem for me, whatever happens, BUT fixing it quickly so you can use it for work again is, thats the whole point in having some cheapy trackday car that none of us need for work.

i don't use it for work i get public transport.

spent the track car budget on a Set of 888s (+wheels?), some adjustable arbs, some new springs, get your seats available to swap over at will

done

whoever crashes it has to the ressponsibility of stealing it for insurance purposes

Rich mate, sounds like we have a plan.

JB, sounds like a plan if the others are up for it, Im quite happy to give up driver or passenger time to you and/or kirsty at events in exchange for use of your facilities to fix it (my place is far too far away for us to go there to do it)

Depends on what one we get if its got a LSD or not, if not, then welder is a plan.

Shit for that?
trackdays, or drifting?

Bear in mind our main interest is going to trackday, odd bit of sideways out of some of the lower speed stuff is cool but we wont be "drifting" it anyway probably.

ALTHOUGH, that said, personally id be well up for DWYB at the pod in it once a month if Jim and Rich can get a wednesday off work once a month

i suppose try it and see how it get on a track days with a welder. So people find its makes the car understeer more but a bit of man foot sorts that out.

I assume:

Standard worn out LSD = blurry torque transferring rubbishness and weak locking.

IIRC M3 LSD's are plated so it could be rebuilt.

Right, this sounds like a plan.

Me, Rich and Jim will find a 325 or 328 cheap and buy it, we'll bring it down yours to strip everything out of it, whack some buckets in (which I already have), and welder the diff.

Then we'll all take turns ragging the shit out of it on trackdays, and if it brakes, we'll recover it to your place and fix it, will be taxed so can live at rich's on the street when its not needing to be in your place to be fixed or whatever.

Ive got insurance for it, so no problem there.

Jim or Rich can sort out AA cover to get us home just in case.

First event: Donno 29th December
Ive already booked a novice session at donno with two drivers, so we just need to book an inters session with two drivers as well, and then me, rich, jim, kirsty can all have a drive of it, and you can jump in as passenger?

We'll keep an eye out for some spare wheels, and find some half decent tyres for it.

Everyone ok with that?

Luke,

My welded wasn't too bad @ Silverstone. I was mainly oversteering anyways

Only after a few laps when the front budget tyres started lettin go did I feel it push on, but as you said was easily corrected wit a lil bit of me BIG right foot

1500quid should be spent on a E30 or E36. nowt else IMO.

a 200SX at that money is a gay idea unless you planning to mod it loads.

a 300ZX non turbo is one of the gayest cars on the planet.

and anyone who thinks a welded diff is a worse idea than a stock open or shitbox standard LSD is totally gay, has no experience of them, or just has no idea how to drive to combat underster.
Dick Johnsons RS500, as a lot of RS500 touring cars and Thundersaloons did, had a fully locked diff rather than a LSD, as do a lot of the current Aussie V8 touring cars, and a LOT of other RWD race cars.
