I must admit, I reckon an Omega V6 or Carlton/Sanator 24V would be my 2nd choice if cant find a decent 325 or similar.
In fact a Carlton GSI 24V would be my 1st choice regardless, I know of top racers who reckon they one of the best you can get. But you just cant find em anymore! Mark Luney buys every one he sees and takes em back to Northern Ireland with him.

Even Auto 24V Carltons and Senators are badass tho, great sports auto boxes, very keen to kick down, dont change up till the limiter, and can select first 3 gears manually, and they VERY long gears too.
But there are not loads of them either, ive killed two of them myself
This was the 1st one

what about an 2.5 24v omega, theres a few manuals about
1300ovno for this
plenty of room for 3 blokes, plus many spare tyres!
or maybe a saloon version
im sure with abit of searching they can be had for 1k

fil, its just the lack of reliability of the V6 vauxhall engine when thrashed that is an issue.
My mate used to have a MINT mv6 omega, low milage and FSH etc, and it still used to get issues when he took it drifting, boiling over etc or suddnely losing all power, id just sooner trust a bmw straight 6 lump.

Almost EVERYTHING boils over when drifting, esp if your not going very fast.
Dont matter if its a Skyline, BMW, Omega, it will boil over if you do it for a long time, so dont use that as a reason, as youl find the bimmer jus the same unless you going fast.
But other probs, well thats news to me, and enough use em, but no idea what the engines are like in track use.

The vauxhall v6 engines though have quite a few issues, overheating being a big one (even when not drifting) and they are harder to work on for stuff like cambelts (engine has 4 cams etc)
But in fairness, none of it is bad enough to put me off, so if the others wanted an omega I would go for that without moaning, in fact being a vauxhall it would quite suit me as i could take it to vauxhall events im at anyway, lol, but I do just prefer how the 3 series drives to an omega, they handle better IMHO

yes its auto, but 3 ways 200notes each, sod any mods, just go to the track!

If the Police have JUST finished using it, and its not a base model panda car, it WONT be 1500quid.
Ex police cars are only 1500quid yeeeears down the line.
Last JUST ex cop cars I saw were 7k+, but they did have some late model Omega MV6s for sale.
MX6s are FWD, Fiat Coupes FWD, 944s are RWD and wont be cheap to fix, and pretty unremarkable too in base model 1500quid form

Eh? the 323i was one of the best around in it's day and still a proper laugh for cheap trackaction!
I used to have a 323i with a 2.7 Hartge engine in it and it was quicker than my E30 M3...

They're the cars I always wanted growing up and never owned, be great to own them now and thrash them round the track.
Unfortunately the Cosworth has gone, sold to help fund the buying of our house, the main reason I now can't afford to get myself a cheap track car!

I was going to suggest an Omega MV6. There are quite a few manuals around. Keep checking eBay and Pistonheads.
Surely performance would improve when 100kgs+ of interior is binned.
It may even turn corners with strut braces and some slicks!

What advantages do people think the omega has over the 3 series just out of interest?
Personally I cant really think of any.
Not saying there is anything wrong with them as such, I just cant think of any reason to sacrifice superior BMW build/reliability to go for the vauxhall instead?

Im kind of the same, would just sooner have a 3 series

Matt black paint job is 20 quid of paint we dont need to spend and brings NOTHING to the table in terms of how it feels to drive the car round a track.

Old (late 80's)MR2?
Model After that MR2?
2.0 16 158bhp from the "factoru" so it says.
Though to be fair Chip, I think your money would be better off spent on a BMW as there are so many between £1k and £1.5k.
Other than that i would say if you can find one within your price range, an MX5 has all the qualities you are looking for.....[Edit, just had a better look, you would need to stretch the budget to £2000 just to buy the car [/edit]
