Default Camera problem - experts help please?

Our camera which does get used quite a lot has decided to pack in, when taking photos outside, looking through the viewfinder its perfect, take the shot and its just a bright white screen.
Take a photo inside and it works, but is massively overexposed, even in the dark with the flash off.
I presume the lens has gone and if so how much would it roughly cost to get a replacement, its not under warranty and finding it quite difficult to even find anywhere to ask about fixing it.

Its a Casio Exilim zx-500 and its just over 3yrs old

Obviously the price of the camera has come down massively now anyway so it may be cheaper to replace? i dont know a thing about the cost of things so i thought i would ask on here

I had a Sony which did something very similar, I sent it back under warrenty and they sent back a totally new one, so I guess it wasnt easily fixable!
Could be just as cheap to get a new one, and see it as an opportunity to upgrade

It could be one of many things, i would say though that you will probably find it's more costly to fix than to replace like for like. I would recommend the move to DSLR, a budget one, or from HK etc can be a similar price to a decent compact.

You wont go far wrong with a D40-D60 or canon 400D/450D.

I know what you mean, credit crunch is pinching!

I will second that.... even though I had to buy a D80 so that the AF lenses I had from my F65 SLR would fit
