loosing compression, not knowing why its doing that he would assume its got a gasket being the cause for it,,,,, cant see inside a engine to see if the tips are fucked
cambelt is a worry though,,, as the car dont have ANY cams OR cambelt
if you ever spoke to garages every day you would soon learn just how little some know and get to understand WHAT they mean when they ask for something totally different
but then again that IS what i do for a living and deal with 200 calls a day from garages so maybe thats why i think different

PMSL.
You cant blame them though.
I've had folk tell me about cambelts on chain-driven engines before now. You cant expect them to know everything.
Though I am susrprised he clearly didnt even look at the engine in question.

dont you work in a parts department ginge? you talk like your in some fancy important analytical position?
hasnt got a head OR a head gasket either (or any similar gaskets), so I fail to see how thats any more correct than a fucking cambelt ginge

rotary engine is 2 rotors together in rx7's, thats where the confusion has come from im sure of it
remember that mechanics and ment to know EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING,,, its not as easy as we make it sound considering the amount of rotarry engines on cars
hell look at how much people used to pay for work on impreza's with garages saying that flat 4's are a different type of engine and very very hard to work on,, IGNORING ITS JUST A BEETLE ENGINE
ive had the AA just start me when i pointed out the enticer wire on the alt was split,,, he didnt even know what it done and sent me on my way,,,,, where i broke down 3 miles later
thats the most SIMPLE thing on a car engine,,,, car charging system 1.1 tells your about it

They are a CUNT to work on when still in the enginebay, not because of the engine, because of where it all sits.
So they are RIGHT, and I have worked on enough to know...

funny enough steve the only work ive done on mine is a rad which is PISS easy ( half out in my parking space at work) and service,,,,, ok plugs feel iffy but thats cause of where they are
you KNOW what im talking about,,,, you just wanna argue about it
steve working with garages you have to understand what people mean,,, example a rack end is EITHER the tie road OR the steering rack end.... the nearside can be either with some garages and same goes for right hand side or left hand side
you have to learn to get what they mean over the phone,,, in another language with a bird whos been left to deal with a call about parts she aint got a clue what they look like
not to mention the argoant young apprentice who thinks he knows everything about cars cause hes got a snap on tool box and is now allowed to do a cambelt on hes own this week

steve im pointing out JUST what you see working in the game, and get to understand what they mean
you dont realise JUST how many shite garages are out there till you work at the end of the phone with them

the point im getting at is WHY someone can make the mistake, SUSPECTED head gasket on a car,,,,, considering how many cars he sees and when he prob done hes training,,,, with the limited info hes got on a laptop hes gonna summerise what he THINKS has caused it
but can see what might be the issue
that was the point, dealing with cars every day you forget just what every part is,,,,,, even if you know the answer you forget
but can see what might be the issue

You know whats really annoying...
When you walk in Partco and ask for "the thingy" or "you know, the round big that does this" and those incompent gits look at you like some kind of retard.
Whats with that??

as to what ginge is on about:
ford garage calls up to ask him a question abotu fords
nissan garage calls him up to ask about nissans
audi call him up to ask about audi parts
etc, etc
so he knows lots about lots
the aa fella has probably not been taught about the wankel engine and is just guessing as to what the problems could be
we can all see the funny side, but who else got asked to top up a beetle engine with antifreeze when they were doing their training

RAC = Rent A Clown, utterly useless, I have found the AA to be far better generally.
Sorry Ginge, I have to agree that the early Scoobs were a pain in the arse to work on, no access to anything, hence big bills even for simple stuff like plug changes, the heads sat right against the chassis either side of the engine bay.

Plugs, turbos, etc are all do-able DIY on a scooby without anything really rediculous needing doing, BUT they are a skin scraping pain in the arse, certainly more than a straight 4, due to engine position.

Why do they persist with using a flat engine design?
The beetle engines were shite - whatever possessed others to carry on with the idea?
Am I totally missing something here?
