I of all people will know exactly how mcuh he meant to you.

All I can offer is that Sophie (my girlfriend) has a few horses on the farm, so if you're ever down our way, you're welcome to come and spend some time with them.

Nicole/Stu,

So sorry to hear what you have had to go through.

My wife has a horse and I would not like to have to go through that. i have had to it with a dog last year and that was bad enough.

Sorry to hear about this Stu/Nicole

As said, time will heal

Nicole, do you think Paddy would like you never to show the same love/affection to another horse? I think he would be grateful that another one of his species was getting looked after to that extent

Chin up, things will get easier over time.

Nicole,
don't give up, stu told me a while back what you were trying to do. Sounds to me like you have a real gift which enabled you to gain Paddy's trust after he was badly mis-treated.
Folks like you are rare, most would have turned their back on Paddy and chosen a horse which didn't require the attention you were prepared to give him.

If everyone was like you the world would be a better place

Just had to have a cat put down, aged 18, I remember him being born all that time ago. Had kidney failure, never realised what that could do... a healthy cat turned into a living skeleton in not much more than a month...

18 good years though, that's the important thing. You gotta remember the good times...

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply, it does help!

I got my claim form today from the insurance, i can't face filling it in

Everybody is being so kind and helpfull

It's remembering the good times that keeps making me crack up I had plenty of good times with Paddy, he was such a genuine horse, the only bad times were his illness.

Frog, thanks for your kind words, i am a sucker for problem horses but it's great to see them come out of the other end happy again I study alot of horse psychology and i think that is where my heart is to be honest

Went back to work today, it was pretty grim, seeing all his things again.
Not had a good day atall My boss has been very good about everything though, so it could be worse.

I just hope each day gets a little easier

Thanks Katie, i may take you up on that one day
I steer more towards the psychology so we could make a good team
Yeah, Paddy was treated like royalty, no less than he deserved

Hi Stu/Nicole,

I'm not cosstu I'm his girlfriend Kim, I know exactly what you are going through I bought a rescue horse a few years ago, she was a gypsy horse a badly mistreated, after 12 months she got cusions, basically she could hardly walk, I kept her going for 12 months after this, which I deeply regret, I was absolutly devestated, I know how you feel, and I really do feel for you! It's been 4 years and I have only just got back into it, now I wish I hadn't left it so long, I still get upset when people mention her name, but that'll never change and I'll never forget her, but at least the last few years she had I know where the best she could of had, same as Paddy.

I have a 16.1h thoroughbred at the moment, she is a gem, but I only have her on loan and cannot afford her, the lady who owns her won't take her back, and I can't let her go just incase she ends up in a bad home and gets mistreated, at least in this case I can sort of prevent what happened to mine. Like I said, you'll never really get over it, but at least he's no longer suffering, and he didn't suffer for long, for that you can be thankful...Take care, as I keep saying I do feel for you, don't let this put you off getting another soon, you obviously love being around horses, you can give another badly treated horse the love and affection you gave to Paddy and give another horse the great life you gave Paddy xxx

sorry to hear about your loss.
i belive god to be a wanker!
my best mate, and i mean he was like a brother we were that good friends, died in a car crash back in 2001 on his 21st birthday, i hadn't seen him that day and he wasn't even driving, i still havn't got over it but time is helping so i can imagin what you must feel like.
nothings fare in this life and the good people suffer by having the things there care about taken away while scum bags go untouched, even the driver that killed my mate in his car paid his way out without so much as a warning, i mean 100% nothing, no fine no points not court case and he still walks around now
truly sorry to hear your very unfortuant news

If i got another horse i would feel like i was betraying Paddy or something

Might sound stupid to some, but until youv'e experienced it, it is hard to understand what others are feeling.
You can't replace him, at all. But you gotta get another horse!!

Its a build up of emotions, i travel to work every morning past a riding school, and i get a wave from everybody in the line, but the only ones i recognise are the instructor, (that treats me like i'm part of the furniture)
and all the horses!

Even a V loud ducati they still don't care.

If another car is behind me they don't recognise they go bonkers!

If i gave up on things, i would not have:

a: Two kids
b: A left hand
c: A cossie Escort!
d: etc,etc,etc.

With deep regret!

Thanks guys, didn't read the rest of the replies till just now.

I got Paddy's ashes today, i feel loads better now that i have him back, almost like he has come home if that makes sense Still completley gutted, but i can start to look to the future now i have him back.

Wont be getting another for a while, i am getting another RS in the mean time to keep me out of mischeif and give me something to do, as i am bored out of my brains without Paddy.

Thanks again peeps for your support.

I used to ride a lot when I was younger.....only reason I quit a couple of years back was because I couldn't face the idea of them dying......the horse I'd showjumped and used for dressage for like 3 years died....(admittedly yes, someone of my height and build did look silly on a near 17h horse....)
Gorgeous animals......that's purely why I could never have one, theres a different bond with an animal you have to work in unison with....as opposed so sum fleabag cat who sits around sucking its arse....
It's taken me over 6 months to get over having my old dog put to sleep, which we had since I was 2.....had him since he was a pup. Animal loving saddoe, eh?
I know what you mean like you couldn't get another one....I haven't been on another horse since he died.....although I do fancy getting back into it one day....maybe.

Yes, there is alot of work involved, thats probably one of the hardest parts, you work as unit, all your years of hard work and competing to be the best you can possibly be. Somebody else could come along and get on your horse and try to ride him and they can't get it to work as well as you can. The horse trusts you and when u reach that point, the horse tries its very hardest to please you. That is one of the things that kicks you in the guts, as you spend hours every day working along side something that will do anything for you, to have it taken away.

That is why i am holding back from getting another one too quickly tbh, as it hurts so damn much. You could have seriously offered me a million pounds for Pads and i wouldn't have given him up. That is just the effect they have on you.

totally.....I haven't got the guts to get one....I had so many times where mum was like 'oh she/he is so lovely, youd do so well on her/him' but I did not want to know.....I would never have sold it, therefore at some time or another, I would have lost it.

I know what u mean, but i feel that my life would not be complete without one. I thought Pads would be here for the long haul. Now he is not i have to reconsider my options. Thing is my career is with the horses, so i have to get thru it to carry on in my field. As b4 paddy went i thoroughly enjoyed my job.

It'll help you spending time with horses to get over losing him though I think, in a strange way.....although for a while it'll make you feel worse....I hope in the long run knowing you've put so much effort into working with horses will make it easier to deal with the loss of your own??
It keeps you in the same world....like hes just gone away....and not died....not so abrupt?
(to me what I just said makes sense....just ignore me if it doesnt, heh nothing new!)

I know what your saying. If i hadn't have gone back to work and just carried on, (although it is hard) then i prob would have never gone back. But i have said before it is where my heart is and i always end up back with the horses So i will follow my heart and if it leads me to another horse one day then so be it. I won't go looking though

You don't tend to have to look for animals to rescue, from my experience somehow they seem to find you, =)
