Default Smoke coming from engine?!

My 2003 Mondeo 2.5 V6 is giving off a fair bit of smoke from the back of the engine. If driven with care and ease this does not seem to happen, yet given a bit of throttle/spirited drive as soon as I pull up I can see smoke coming from the drivers side wheelarch. I opened the bonnet today and looked at where the smoke was coming from, I have pointed with my finger in the picture to where the smoke comes from, kind of from the back of the engine.....Also the smoke smells of oil.

Any ideas would be great.

This is the type of engine she has.... A Duratec 2.5 V6 170BHP.

Oil leaking onto the exhaust below more than likely. Time to go investigating

Thanks mate.

Maybe a silly question but could it be dangerous as in hot oil dropping on to a hot exhaust?

For the past 24 years I have been driving I have only had 4 pot engine, RS Turbo's, Ren' 5 GT Turbo's, 205 GTI's etc so having a V6 is all new to me and a bit daunting as it does not look easy to work on

It "could" be dangerous yes, chances are you'll get away with it but its not something that should be ignored. TBH, having owned RST's and Ren 5's I'm suprised your not used to the smells of burning oil

Its probably easier to get under and shine a torch up the back of the block to look for any oil weeps/leaks than climb over the top

So so true mate.....When the R5 was running which was rare it did stink of oil

It only seems to be letting oil out when the engine has had a bit of a spirited drive, so say above 4k RPM. The Woman who owned it before drove it like it Miss Daisy. Been looking on the net and it seems the inlet manifolds can get bunged up, cant think this would produce smoke and oil burning though?
