Default WTF is it with BMW drivers and their tax dic holders??!?!!!?

Why are tax disc holders so damn important to BMW drivers?

I do on average 25-30 windscreens a week, and BMW's, in a variety of models including Mini's, are popular, so I can do upto 10 a week... Why are they the ONLY brand owners to complain about about tax disc holders? I'd say a good 85-90% of tax disc holders tear/rip/lose the sticky, etc when replaced, so naturally I carry spare holders (Autoglass branded, we aren't gonna supply other branded ones naturally) so that the customer isn't inconvininced and can display their tax disc when the job is completed.

Everyone whose tax disc holder I replace is gratefull - except BMW/Mini drivers!

I did a Mini yesterday, I get a call this morning from my guy in the office saying the owner had been on the phone asking why she has a new tax disc holder. Naturally he explained to her why, but she is demanding having it back! Too late now, it ripped when I tried to remove it from the screen, so it's been binned. But she's compaining cos she don't have a Mini branded tax disc holder! FFS, GET A LIFE!!!!

1) it's a fucking tax disc holder!
2) You can get a free one from BMW if you pop in and ask
3) Whats the big fucking deal!?!?!?

I just don't get why BMW/Mini drivers feel a BMW dealer branded tax disc holder is so important!

Fair enough if it's a special one, say an XROC or RSOC branded holder, but I did a MINT and I mean MINT concours condition RS2000 the other day and his tax disc holder ripped, I gave him a new one, he said thank you. Simple!

crazy isn't it....people are just stupid and unreasonable.

Like you say, the dealers will hand them out for nothing anyway, so what's the problem??

Bud - sure, I can see the "ffs, now I have to go down the dealers on a saturday/day off to get a new one" but that said, WHY do they have to go down the dealers to get a new one? Why is it so fucking important?!?! And why is it ONLY BMW/Mni drivers?

I like BMW's, but I'd never be so fucking anal that I *MUST* have a dealer branded tax disc holder!!!!

Seems strange how its mainly BMW/Mini owners. If it happens that often id mention it to them before that they often rip/tear etc and if they are not happy with that, get them to remove it themselves. Will stop all the hassle im sure.

Or the other option is to get a load of bmw disc holders yourself in case they do get damaged. Saves all the hassle again.

Maybe bmw/mini owners are not clever enough to realise that you cant always re-use a disc holder when its removed???

Some people do like nothing better than complain about fuck all tbh.

It was the same when i worked at Mercedes, they'd get all steamed over trivial pettyness.

When you have someone ringing our call centre to complain about a fucking tax disc holder, which then ruins my record as a fitter with very very few complaints, it's isn't trivial to me. What is trivial is the nature of the complaint - and whats annoying is the trivialness of the complaint has fucked my record. The record of warrenty/complaint vs completed/satisfied jobs does not base itself on the nature of the complaint - it's a percentage ratio, so my percentage has now gone down thanks to a fucking Mini owner being anal over their tax disc. FFS, the girls mother inspected the vehicle after I finished and was perfectly happy and signed to say so, now I get a call about her (the daughter) complaining about a poxy tax disc holder!....

Mine's only a crappy one from the garage I bought my car from.... wouldn't bother me if I lost it in the slightest... the tax disc is another matter, however.

To me it shows that the fitter simply did not care.

I remove my tax disk holder every 6 months for 3 years to change the tax disk with no problems so why should he fuck it up?

It may mean nothing to you, but I have a 1977 MK2 Escort Mexico in the garage with its original dealer tax disk holder. How rare is that!

Yes, but WHY?! WHY is is so important? Half the cars I work on are modified in one way or another - personal touches, new rims, non standard stereo's, bluetooth kits screwed to the dash, etc - so it's not like it's a factory standard concours car that is the end of the world if it doesn't have factory plates and tax disc holder!

What I want to know is WHY it's so important, and so far no-one can answer that!

I had one 5 series, boggo 5 series, not even an M model, actually REFUSE I put a new holder on his new screen and sellotaped his tax disc to his screen untill he could get to the local dealer to get one with a BMW logo on it ANAL PRICK!

I had an Aston in a while ago - no complaints from him. Or the Bentley owner, or the countless Porsches I do - why then do I get BMW drivers moaning? You cunts don't do your collective rep any favours

Its part of the history of the car, its the providence.

I didnt want a bright orange RAC one, it wasnt exactly in keeping with the carbon & alacantara interior, so I had to change it to a magnatax, which is just as shit.

i have had 14 cars in my driving lifetime, all mostly sh!t boxes millions of years old....nearly all hav had crusty old manky tax disk holders in the windscreen....not ONE of them has ever torn whan i've taken them out!

you are dealing with BMW's and Mini's which i presume are less than 5 years old so the tax disk holders should come out with ease if your careful...

i think you are just being a heavy handed caveman and ripping them out without even trying to remove them carefully - i think if you can salvage the original then DO - but if not then yeah rip it out....but seriosuly, there not that hard to take out

fpmsl.. funniest post I've seen in ages.

There is no history or pedigree to a BMW mini, infact they're pretty much the embodiment of the opposite.

If its that much of an issue that it affects your ratio of work etc, then why not ring the owner if they are not there and explain that it may get damaged BEFORE you remove it.
Then they have to chance to come and do it themselves, pretty simple really!

ROFL @ the posts here. Yes, that must be it, I'm being heavy handed and ripping them deliberately Come work for me and we'll see how you get on. And it's not just me either, nearly all our fitters say the same thing. I dunno, maybe BMW nuy cheapo tax disc holders

As for "part of the history of the car" - thats the point I raised in post #15 - if people modify their Mini's and 1/3/5/3tc series from standard by changing the rims, chaingng the stereo's. screwing bluetooth and phone kits to the dash (screwing them in? Thats permanent holes FFS) then why moan about a tax disc holder?

As for pride inthe car? Porseche owners generlly seem to have more pride in the car - I've never fitted a windscreen to a Porsche that wasn't spotless and polished, as opposed to the countless Beemers than are filthy, inside and out, yet they don't moan?

I still fail to see what the big deal is about the dealer stamp logo on the tax disc holder? Many people have pride in their cars but yet fail to moan about tax disc holder - why sould beemer owners be different?

a tax disk holder is a piece of adhesive FLEXIBLE plastic that is stuck to the window? how hard is it to just peel one edge up and gently pull it off? i do think you are being too heavy handed/careless and purposely ripping them off - i want your name and your managers name, i am going to report you as you clearly need more training.

maybe he works on price work or has a quota to fill so he might not have the 20 odd minutes to "gently" pull the tax disc off, when he could be earning more money. plus its a piece of plastic, i agree there is no reason to get anal about it. too many other things to worry about in life than something so stupid

you know where she lives, send her a rude letter, or post her a poo or soemthing

better still, break her windscreen so that she needs another new one, that way you can go out and find her and call her a twat to her face

or you can look at it in a grown up manner (unlike her) and just take it as part of the whole bmw owner sterotype, and seeing as she doesn't actually drive a bmw, she's got idea's above her station and nothing you say will placate her

move on and forget about it, i know it's not going to help your record but what a you do? nothing, so don't worry about it and just carry on despising them twats for that very reason

as for the rest of you, i can understand if it's a bit of sticky that will come off, but what if it tears?
it's not as if it's going to be glued back on again is it/
and what do you do with them secutiry tamperproof holders that you can't get off without tearing the tax disc?

This is so fucking funny its just a tax disc holder who gives a shit. 99p from post office or free from a dealer. As long as theres one in the car who cares.

any one who phones up to complain about this needs to get a life and quick.

Sounds like you're just as anal about some gay work record as they are about their tax disc holders, so surely you can appreciate their concerns.

The real issue here is the way your work records these complaints as valid.

if it KEEPS happening, when you get a BMW or Mini driver why don't you explain the situation BEFORE you attempt to remove it and tear it?

Jesus... Rocket science this isn't!

Thats just good customer service by preventing a possible problem with a warning!

I think the BMW drivers are GAY to call and complain but I think you are fooking STOOOPID if you keep getting complaints against you for a possible problem you could prevent or prepare the customer for!!!

As Porkie says, you're just inviting these issues and not helping yourself in this situation.
These people do sound like they need bigger worries in their lives, like finding the money for indicator bulbs.

Quick Reply: WTF is it with BMW drivers and their tax dic holders??!?!!!?
