Default DVLA are f***ing c***s GRRRRRRRRRRR

I bought a car off a mate of mine back on 10th April with 3 months MOT and tax. I sent the tax back and declared it sorn as I was scrapping the car. He gave me the full log book which I said I would send off as scrap when it had been weighed in but haven't sent it yet as I've still got it. About a week ago he recieves a letter from DVLA saying the car hasn't been taxed since the 16th of April and has got to pay a £40 fine. He sent off the part of the form explaining that the car was transfered to me on said date but have replied saying he's still gotta pay! As I said just give me the V5 it's on my back to pay it cause I'm not a cunt. Wish I had sent off the trade part now Gets my blood boiling cause the tax disc was sent back to THEM and sorned at the same time but they are being total fuck wits! The fine goes up to £80 in August so has anyone got any ideas what we could do to get out of it?

tell them to ram it, you should have a letter stating that the car is SORN declared?

If you sent the tax back and DVLA sent the cheque for the refund to you, they must have the refund form V.14 showing you also applying for SORN and know of your address as the vehicle keeper.

Or does this mean anyone can get hold of a tax disc, apply for a refund and they send the cheque payable in anyones name to any address?

if you got a cheque back form them then you can cheerfully write to them and say "up yours dick faces"

it shows they recived the letter and the tax so it's up to them to sort out the fuck up

i've done it in the past
whilee has done it in the past as well
both times we've said "not our fault you don't get the letter we sent you, we'll send it recorded delivery in the event this situation repeats itself"

never heard a word

Well sounds like they will try anything to earn a bit of dollar so i'm going to try and fight the tossers. Like people have said, why else would you send back a tax disc unless the car is off the road
