Right people some of you might know i bought a car off my mate. He had the car about 2 to 3 years and reckons he never got a V5 for it.I think he has just lost it. Anyway he sent off for another V5. The mrs give him a form to fill out of the dvla web site last month so the car would come back in his name and he still hasnt recived it.
Could i phone the dvla up and say i want the car put in my name or would my mate have to ring up and ask about it cause technically its sort of still his car.

depends on if he paid the fee or not glenn which can slow things down, but really he should have let you send off for it and discount the fee they charge, because your name is not on the V5 dvla wont tell you anything he needs to do it
strangely i"ve found if you apply using the green slip[no fee] it takes almost the full 6 week period to get a v5
any time i have paid [not had green slip] it has been a very quick process-only a couple of weeks
get your mate to call them after the 6 weeks period [if its still that time limit ]
i doubt they will tell you much tbh dpa and all that[when it suits them]

Ive phoned the dvla. I have to send a form off and 25 quid to get it changed into my name. Then i have to send another form off for the tax.
Why couldnt they be a local office near where i live so we could pop in and sort things out there and then.
