no as the hole is slightly smaller i think it seems to pull out but then it gets caught up
also you havent got the room to pull it out of the pulley side due to the inner wing or inner bit cant remember what its called lol

Cheers fella just didnt want to take the core plug out from under the coil pack as i wont be able to use the car once ive checked the cam and removed the core plug as i wont be able to pick one up till monday

Taking the core plug out is easier than taking the head of even if you could get the cam out from the pulley end!!
Just leave the core plug in and get the cam mobile. Then use the camshaft to knock out the core plug by tapping the pulley end with a hammer gently.
Alternatively, if you are just checking it (lobe wear?), why don't you just remove all the followers and rotate it around so you can see down the follower bore?
