Default Gearbox Problems

Folks,

got a 2wd saff. Last nite i couldnt get the bugger in 5th gear. Gettin into 5th has been a notchy affair recently but lastr nite it was just solid. I can get the other 4 gears and reverse so was just wondering if i had fucked the syncro on 5th. The car has also started to judder when pulling away now as well, which has never happened b4. Could this be the start of impending doom and will it still b ok to drive just using 4 gears?

Any help appreciated?

can you put it in 5th without the engine running? it does sound as though your box is about to let go m8 I wouldn't keep driving as maybe something will break inside and it could lock up.

I'm NOT an expert on boxes but I'd say that selector,4th and 5th syncros and bulk rings are a common weak link in the T5 box, best speak to gearboxman(Bernie)of here m8 as it will DOES mean you'll be needing a rebuild or @ least a 2nd hand box
