Unfortunately the blocks come in at $6,000+options.

I thought the problem with the Turkish blocks was todo with wall thickness between the bores, if to fit the liners you have to machine that out anyway surely any block would be just as weak. Or is it that the overall casting is weaker due to the casting process, if your going to be running liners again dave you may manage to pick up a cheaper block that has damage to the standard bores.

Gutted for you mate, but not surprised... as soon as you told me the symptoms and said that you thought it was the 'old' head gasket at Lorraines party I said to Maria.... 'nope... thats a cracked block'
Didn't wanna say anything in case it wasn't.
sorry Dude
Fuck the liners and all that Jazz.... rebuild to decent level... Just rebuild to around 600bhp or less even and either enjoy the car or break it.
Stop chasing the 200mph mate as its going to keep hurting you big time!
Personally I'd sell the ubercool but not needed bling inlet to fund the rebuild. Just my opinion...

Are the nikasil liners just steal liners with a nikasil coating to healp deal with the heat and friction of a big power engine or are the actual liners different. I know when a lot of my mates raced 2 stroke motocross bikes we use to send the barrels away to be nikasil coated. If you could find an original bore block and have it coated would it give less flex (as your then dealing with one original casting not a casting with a friction fitted insert)but with the same benifits.

Gutted for you
I would love to see Yum crack 200mph, but it comes down to how much you wanna throw at it. If its what you want, go for it.
I spoke to Cosworth about the alloy block, they said it was'nt aimed at engines producing very high outputs. If memory serves, the fella on the phone said 500bhp was the limit for them.
Best of luck with the car, hope it doesnt cost you a silly amount to put right.

Sad to read this! Hope you woun`t give up!
But goes to show I`m not far off when I recomend people to use a genuine cossie 205 block rather then a Turkish 200 block..

EBB flowtech power in stavanger have Ultrasound scans of all the variations of cossiblocks, he havent had time to compare all the data yet, but he should be able to uncover the myths of this old block..

Sounds about right... At the moment the car does not seem to be fun, when it stops being fun do something about it or break it

Dave,
I'm very sorry to hear somemore bad luck coming your way, I think a bit a reflection is needed now.
I'm sure you had a diary full over events you wanted to attend in Yum this year and something like this is a real kick in the bolocks for you and Helen, 200 mph would be a great thing to have on your CV and I'm sure everyone else would agree but you've just cracked 194 and I can't see any privately owned Escort Cosworth owner coming close. If 200 is your goal and nothing else matters then accept this as a low to the highs you'll achieve in reaching this, but if you want to have a car that you have available more than not maybe it's time to stand back and be proud out what you've already achieved and show it off at these places.
Good Luck, Warren

the bottom line is that it all depends on dave's ability to fund the next level of tuning/rebuilding
if he knows that, for the sake of Ł5k being spent he can flog the car for Ł35k and there is someone willing to buy it then fair enough
but if it's only worht Ł25k after having spent Ł5k on it and it's worth Ł30k in bits without spending the money, you have to start thinking
if it were me, personally, i'd bolt in a standard engine, transmission and sell the car as a going concern and all the other bits that would make big money would go to one side and be sold seperatly
then again, i think i could afford to getit fixed and go on from there, but not knowing dave's situation, or, more importantly, his drive and willingness to go to the next level, i couldn't say anything for him

Once we have the block stripped to make sure we have no more damage and we get the results back from the head then will know the full extent of the damage.
Then Mark can have a look at what we have salvaged and what we needs to be done.
If its just block and machine work that wont be such of a blow maybe change out of 5k
Me and Helen will then decide if YUM will see the light of day again or be broken into bits

I reckon you should find yourself a std size bore s'hand block, bore it to 91mm with new pistons and re-assemble. Obviously the replacement block will need machining for long studs but it would be cheaper and a much quicker option, depending on Marks work load you should be able to see it back on the road in 2/3 weeks.

So would you not go the liner route then?

I know how you feel Dave, you spend the money on the best parts available, and then get let down through no fault of yours or Mark's.
If you go the non-linered route, you DEFINITELY will need to turn the boost down . I would imagine that the huge boost spike that you run is not doing the engine (or transmission come to that) any favours for longevity .
