Think a 2nd hand lump is the way forward, anyone who know of a 3.0 m3lump, let me know.

Would be cheaper and easier to supercharge an E36 M3 engine than it would be to fit an E46 engine. Cannot see the point for the very marginal gain.

bloody hell thats lucky, i thought it might of just cracked... could it be a torquing issue as it seems to have happened at the end of the thread, ie the bolts just bottoming out and touching the end of the crank and putting it under tension.? did martins break in the same place.?

It snapped at the same place as yours did, right? Is it the weakest area of a crank?

To fix this obviously it needs a new crank but is it a case of turning the engine upside down & replacing the crank or will the head ect need to come off to be checked for any further damage?

Bizarrely Farndon didn't pick up on the design 'flaw' on the OE crank and successfully re-produced it on their not-so-cheap version!!

The crank snapped when Mike tried to tighten it - the car wouldn't start becasue it was wobbling, and the cps coudn't sync - so thought it had worked loose.
Few of us off to the castle now, then on track again this evening

Wouldn't that suggest that something more serious was wrong with the crank if it was wobbling ?

I've seen people driving around with snapped cranks and only found out they were snapped once removing the crank pulley.. Sounds like this was a similar case here, and a lucky one at that!!

Judging by who's been back and posting, the list is narrowing down
Glad people are physically ok though.

I've got a fair idea, not that I'd wish it upon anyone anyway but I hope to god i'm wrong in thinking it's one of two people...

Just had a chat with Ginge whos with the scouse lot on the off road course and he said the track has been mentally busy....he spun his scooby on one of the fast bends but he luckily didnt hit anything.
also said maybe someone should have checked their oil on there car when everyone else did
..............
Also again just to confirm the people involved in the crash are 100% fine. which is good news

shame if it was something as simple as that but as he never checked it you'll never know.

Well if it was that, the oil pressure light would have come on a fair bit before the noise became noticeable.
