electronic power steering on a cossie?

not seen it on a cossie as all the bits are easy to get for normal engine driven pump stuff
but on my brother's mk2 escort it was simply a case of bolting in the motor drive to a section of steering column and using a normal quick rack
what kind are you looking at? an electrically driven hydraulic pump, or the electric column type?

Main reason why I have done it is to be able to control the amount of power assist, I find that some cars that have fluid power steering have no feel which is annoying but going to a non pas rack then makes it hard work so the EPAS system is ideal.
Obviously when its a old Ford its just about your only option, mercedes do a electric pump that can run your rack but there is no control over anything.

For a road car, it's probably not worth bothering about, but
Original rack, 6.5Kg
pump etc >7kg
Original column >7 Kg
Total over 20kg.
special built rack 2.25kg save over 4Kg
No pump Or Belts. save 7kg
GpA or special column, 2Kg. save 5kg.
Electric motor, 4kg. add 4kg
Total weight saved is 12kg
For a race car or track car, thats a lot and getting rid of the belt means more power available.
