Default over heating bmw 318i is this common on the old german built cars

got a bmw 318i p reg and it keeps over heating so far these is what i checked/ changed

water pump
thermostate
rad looks new has a electric fan comes on when needs to
all pipe removed and cleand from any blockage
heater matrix not blocked
bleed all the air and thers hot air in the car from heater
changed fan switch

what eles can cause this over heating its ok if its ideling untill its driven and then stoped then i just boils over and starts throwing the water arround ..me think its craked head or gasket

On the 318 8 valve the head gaskets are common on goin there is a little branching elbow at the back of the head that usually breaks or leaks causing the gasket to fail,,you cant miss it its black plastic.

mine was like that, I even removed the thermostat, (had to break it to do it) in the end headgasket failure

Do a coolant pressure test and then a cylinder leakage (leak down) test.

That should tell you whats what.

or a sniff test in the header tank

if it's the older 8V engine there are several different thickness headgaskets for it depending on how much it's been skimed as well

these engines aren't valve safe as the wrong thickness gasket means it won't even turn over

Mate had a E36 1.8, head gasket went on it for no apparent reason.
