seen ALOT worse.

alls i know is they must carry a BSAU stamp i think it is, your font looks ok and i'm sure the numbers/letters dont have to be solid black.

Cossymad - the postcode and BS bit only applies to cars registered from 51 plate or on doesn't it?
I think Bill has already answered this correctly...

ANY new plate made from 2001 covers the legislation. I.E. if your plates were made before this, 8 years ago, then you can get away with more things, like message, and not BS AU 145 d, but if you have had a plate made since then, i.e. you had a private plate which you PURCHASED after 2001, you must comply.
749steve, your plate, if you say you have had it on the car since before 2001 is perfectly legal as it is. However if you have had it made since then, it would be deemed as illegal, since it has a message on the bottom and the Ford logo to one side. I doubt very much whether they could prove you had the plates made later than this, or if they were on the car when you bought it. I would definately not pay the fine on that one.
I sent Stu the upto date info, perhaps he can post it up?

Im not a big fan of fancy plates (prefer standard) but dont see nothing wrong with the ones on your car Stu.

I dont even run a front plate on the cossie & never get any attention off the police. I think you was just unlucky & he's a jobsworth copper
