Its been done by one of the Maltese loonies running a modded GT42 blower on a seriously built drag motor but cant remember if it was with gas as well.

Im sure its possible if you were prepared to accept the lifespan involved and the costs for building, but I fail to see why anyone would choose to do it 1998cc if there wasnt a rule stopping them from going bigger.

The question is what makes YB a YB? With unlimited budget something looking like a YB may have 1000bhp or more, but will it be YB, and the other question is, what for?

Jems have built a 1000+ hp YB iirc

It does run in a maltese drag car though, there is a pic of it somewhere as it has a very odd exhaust manifold on it

In the UK Julian Godfrey has seen 879bhp. Lets say that above 800bhp there are alsorts of problems with the Block its near its limit without lots of extra work. A drag engine built to run for short bursts & only made to have massive Power at the Topend can be made to produce 1000bhp, however not a nice road engine .
Mark is trying to produce a road engine that has 600+ torque at 4.5k & holding it past 6.5k & make as much Power as is possible without losing that Torque curve its taking time & a few probs on the way. Should see circa 780/790 soon & with 240shot of gas now installed should see that 1000bhp we will of course be getting it R-R on the gas & Dyno Dynamics reps will be called in to make sure its all fair & square.

I can be done and more but for how long, thats the question, A 600+bhp engine with same amount of torque thats safe and drivable is quite an acheivement imo and not many have done this.

To those who have

Its keeping the engine reliable thats going to be the issue with a collosal amount of power. Its going to need a rebuild every few hundred miles running I would have thought.

Jenspeed will have more than one this year, one being housed in jens' mk2.
And, why not just say you've heard a rumour? So what if people say "bullshit" it's the internet for gods sake.
Now get down the gym and do ten reps of 180! or anything you say will be classed as bullshit

700 / 800bhp being the "norm" PMSL

I remember when there was only a select few with 500BHP, and they were GODS

The reality of most "dyno queen" engines is that they make thier big figure for 5 seconds on the dyno, and then get stuck in a car and turned down.

NO ONE will be running a 1000bhp YB and using it hard reguarly with that much power all being used, I'll say that much, the block would just fatigue and fall apart IMHO if they did, these shitty old lumps of cast pig iron just arent up to it.

You certainly made it sound like a rumour!
And it has come from you, as you have just stated its a fact that someone has made 1000bhp out of a 1998cc cosworth yb engine without the aid of nitrous.
You have contradicted yourself so many times in this post its not even funny.

Also, my best wishes go to you, get well soon!

ahh i was waiting for your custard presence to appear, i agree totaly with what you are saying Chip, however i think the engine that makes 1000+hp will be used for a particular job. not being a road engine, anyhow i think i have said enough just now... so i wil shut up
