Default Mondeo ST info, advice and price guide please!

Hi guys

I'm looking at swapping the family car out for a mondy ST. I know they are a great all round car. Look good, go well and return good economy.

So! Anyone got any advice/tips/help on them?

When were they first made? 05/55 maybe?

Any common problems?

Anyone got a good current price guide for what i should pay realistically?

Any info welcome.

glad you said that 'cause the petrol V6 economy is not good at all. Stuggle to get over 20mpg and thats driving like miss daisy round town.

However they are great cars and still 40+ mpg from the 2.2 TDCI.

I would go for a 54 plate or earlier as the 05 onwards got loads of chrome bling, door handles, rear lights, front fogs, grill... and it looks like a halfords special IMO. The earlier ones are much more subtle.

the only thing I know of is that the doors can rust along the bottom where the skin is attached to the door but it's a know problem and will / should be done under warranty.

lol halfords special.

just read pauls email and he mentions phase 1/2/3. 2 being 6 speed and 3=chrome.

so what age range is phase 2 as i want 6 speed for sure.

lets see if i can narrow down my range!

I think the 6 speed was late 53 plate so probably 2004 models onwards. You should be able to tell from the ad as most dealers put a (6) in the description for the 6 speeders. Failing that if it's borderline and the price is cheap then it's more than likely a 5 speed. So for 6 speed and no bling your probably looking at late 53, 04 or 54 plated cars.

Probably around 10 to 10.5k in the dealers and maybe a grand less privately for an 04. A little more or less either way for the 53 or the 54.

make sure you get as many options as you can, there are quite a few on this car.

in preparation of your next question... main options I can think of are :

Xenon lights
Recaro leather seats (must be raven, grey and red are gash IMO)
Satnav
Park assist
Privacy glass (technology pack I think it's called)
integral boosters on the back seat.

Climate control, cruise, ESP, ABS etc.. are all standard fit on the ST model.

one more thing the 'chrome' model has red stitching on the wheel and seats which is also horrid.

deffo seen Petrol 53 plated and maybe 52, not entirely sure when the ST TDCI was released. That probably was later than the petrol version as the 2.2 (155 BHP) TDCI engine is still quite new.

do a quick search online using the autotrader website. that will give you a good idea of what's around and prices.

I personally think the later cars with the chrome look much better,,, especially the rear lights,, and the red stitching looks superb

Mines a 54 plate, With 6spd box and a couple of extra's. Nothing major, It had 36k on when i bought it 4 months ago and i paid £10.5k for it, still with for warrenty for 6 months

When i first got it i was a bit dissapointed with the performance tbh, compared to a bmw 320d which i had before which was the 130bhp model.

But a quick trip to MSD sorted that and the car now flies, I went from Birmingham to the bottom of cornwall on saturday, 250 miles and it took less than 3 hours and still saw 42mpg
