YB Engine Problem - With Both Compression Results - UPDATE
ok i'll try it tomorrow, bit late to do it now, or i'll fuck all the neighbours off.
What would it prove though? that it was just a false reading? and that its still number 4 that is the issue and non of the other.
I did do number 1 twice as it was suprisingly high, but both result came out the same, infact the second attempt was slightly higher, i presume due to heat.
I did, 4,1,2,3, 1,2,3,4. All reading were pretty much the same as the first

Ah, fair enough then, I was just worried that number 1 was low down the bore when you took the cams out, and hadnt had enough time turning over to give a correct result, but if you went back afterwards and did it again, that rules that out anyway.
Do you have a compressor and not a leak down tester, or not even a compressor?
If you have a compressor, then drill a hole in a spark plug, and pump compressed air in using it as an apdaptor, and listen for where it comes out.

Quick question
Why didn't u just start the engine, get in the car, let it warm up and then take it off the limiter everywhere.
I think u have managed to worry yourself about nothing. If I am reading this correctly, your car has sat still for a while, and u didn't start it, u tested everything first. I would have just turned the key, warmed it up over a good few miles and then limitered it everywhere.

reason is steve, it had a bit of a make-over the winter new inlet, new rocker with cam trigger, new rail, -6 fuel lines, grp A breather, new ecu, coilpack, strut brace, new hoses, wheels, ap's etc etc
so it was basically in the process of all going back together.
i havent finished the fuel lines or mounted the coilpack hence why the car hasnt been started to do a hot compression test.

Nothing in the "core" engine has been touched, ie no cams out, timing changed etc??
Put it back together and drive it, as has been said by other people, if the engine has not run and is cold it can give all sorts of odd readings
... Give it a good drive then check it again, things don't just break on thier own

Ryan,
What has led to you the point of wanting to do the compression test?
Was it just for your own piece of mind or was there a problem prior to the car coming off the road?

yeah me too mate before they melted it.
Rich, i've only put my loom on over the winter rebuid the car was running a standard loom before it came off the road, but im sure you already knew that, and just being a sarky tit

Still reckon give it a drive for a few miles and see how it behaves
yeah but at this stage it would cost me Ł80 to do a headgasket and inspect it, should i drive it a few miles and have to take the head off it cost me a fair few quid more with more new gasket etc etc, rather than running the risk of them leaking.
The engine was built about 8yrs ago, but only done about 5k miles since its been built, so its been stood alot of its time.

well its deffo done damage.
Swapped the tappets from Number 4 with Number 1.
Number 4 still has 7 Bar of compression, but No 1 now has like 2 BAR, so the tappets are obviously seized open or something holding the valve open causing no compression, which means number 4 valves are pretty much certainly bent i would imagine
So head will be coming off tommorrow or over the weekend.

right:
HEAD IS OFF.
and
cant see anything wrong, valves seem to be seating ok, and only tiniest of tiny marks on pistons 1 & 4, so im guessing it was the tappets all along, holding the valves open. (then spring compression after a while sealing them again)
very very odd.
Bottom end is perfect no wear lip and still has all the hone markings on the bores.
So anyone seen this before? i presume is a case of the tappets locking fully open.
Going to take the head to tremona garage tomorrow for them to give it a once over before i install it.

yeah thats what im thinking.
just a pain in the arse, but its peice of mind now the head has been off and seen that the bottom end is still perfect, and the head "appears" to be the same.
