Land Drainage
Hi, bit of a long shot this one but was chatting with Mike R about this and he said to throw a post up on here as I may be quite surprised on what people on here actually do and know
I need a Land drainage engineer to help me with a piece of land that is holding water, I need to set some sort of Drainage system up to get the surface water off of it, I have looked on the net as I wanted to do it my self but the information on doing it yourself is useless
If anyone on here can help please don’t hesitate to reply or even Drop me a PM even if you not an engineer and just have experience or know someone who may be able to help
Thanks for your time
Ben

Thats just what i had done in my garden, slotted drainage pipe in gravel, and it works a treat

can also do land drainage by digging down and then putting in a layer of hard core (small to medium size rocks) and then re filling and turfing the hard core then acts like a sieve

Spoke to Andy, cheers for his number Martin its a shame he is so far away as i would have had him come and over see what im going to be doing
anyway after a chat with him the basics of what i need to do are
the above should be a lot deeper but due to the land only being 18 inches at the most from the top of the river this is what is going to have to be done
also i didn’t put up that im going to be using a system called Herring bone where every 6 meters i have another set of pipes either side of the main one shooting backwards
i know its not a very good picture but its the best i can get from Google earth and you can sort of see where the road and river are and where the drains are going to be put in place
The red lines are to give an indication of the lands boundarys and the white lines are the actual drains them selves with the road being at the top and the river at the bottom of the pick
will get some picks of the actual land up tomorrow
anyway after a chat with him the basics of what i need to do are
Step 1 Dig Trenches 2 ft wide to the level of the River and then fill with 20 to 25mm of clean stones with no dust to 6 inches above the water level
Step 2 lay a 4 inch perforated pipe on top of the stones and then fill another 6 inches of the 20 to 25mm of clean stones
Step 3 lay Terran on top before adding the top soil back on

Good point
But all the rivers around the surrounding area are all controlled by pump houses to stop them from over flowing or they would flood not only this piece of land but whole villages
I am going to allowed for the river to be at its highest point and then go 4inches above that so should be a safe bet
Who knows what will happen if the rivers do rise i suppose the land flooding will be the last thing on my mind as it could have a knock on affect to even where i live
