Default FAO Builders or those in the know

Hi all

I want to extend one side of our downstairs kidderminster (toilet for none bottom fans ) to add a shower, but I think both side walls are supporting walls, how easy (if possible at all) is it to knock done one wall in order to extend?

Thanks

Dave

Depends on budget mate.

Sorry am a bit vague, but without seeing the property or what is supported from the supposed load bearing walls its hard to give advice.

Chances are its a simple case making sure you support the structure above with some steelwork.

not hard at all really mate, i arnt a builder but im a electrician so im in the trade, and seen things like this done, all you have to do is get some "Akros" long metal stands to support either side of the celing, knock your wall out and stick a lintil in,

He's basically correct, but if it as a mjor load supporting weall your removing, I'd not want to only support the structure above with a Lintel

You'd end up with some 203 x 102 UB's i'd guess?

as said above, you need to make sure that you have structural support in place before you anything, probly best to use Akros, then depending on whether they are load bearing or not you can introduce some sort of lintel.

Akros?

Thanks for the replies, I won't be doing it myself, I'll be leaving it to the professionals, I was just curious as to whether it could be done

whats wrong with sticking a hose pipe out the toilet window and using that a shower?
think of the money you'd be saving and not having to bugger about with lentils and other bothersome vegetarians
