its a h reg mk3 fiesta 1.1 and it ran out of fuel the other week so i put some more in and it started but ran abit rough and i havent used it since then. and iv just been out 2 it and it started but ran rough for a couple of secends and then died and now it wont start again
i think its getting fuel because when i took the spark plugs out i couled smell the fuel and i think its geting a spark

Fuel filter blocked?

 

but i can smell fuel when i take the spark plugs out so there must be fuel geting there

what engine is it?
and what sort of filter has it got?
just because you can smell fuel doens't mean the filters not blocked, it might not be getting enough to it

it's probably picked up some shit int he bottom of teh tank and clogged it, if it's one of them little inline filters they are a few quid and a screwdriver to change

again, it depends on which engine and which fueling arangement you have

if it's normal carb fed the it'll be in the engine bay, about the size of one of them mini cans of coke you used to be able to buy and it'll probably be see through with a jubilee clip on either end
remov the clips, put the new one in, refit
start the car
job jobbed

 

Also check the jets are spraying fuel into the carb. Take the air filter off and look directly into the carb.

 

Used to have exactly same problem on a 1.6 CVH orion. The solution was to clean out the carbaretta which is under the air filter.

If the fuel got too low this would always happen...
