For 6k you will get a very nice saff, 2 or 4 wheel drive, and if you buy a good stage 3 car running Stu's closed loop and wasted spark conversion, you will be laughing . If you don't go stupid they are reliable as any other performance car.

what do they cost and what is the effect on economy? I was thinking stick at stage 1 so it doesn't rinse petrol. how does this compare?

I'm still not sure if I could handle such an old car but if it's well looked after, maybe. I'd like to drive one and see what it's like.

What are the chances of finding one where the gears don't feel loose as fuck tho like every other old car I've had

https://passionford.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=308949

looks a nice car - With your remaining budget get it closed loop controlled and set up by MSD

T5 box is gorgeous to drive with, real tight gears and snicky change

a closed loop stg 3 or even on greys/ siemens will do better MPG than a stg 1 or even standard car, as the fuelling will be perfect. Obviously if you are booting it everywhere then the fuel will be used as required . There have been lots of people reporting 30+MPG in the cruise :cool

for an everyday car, if it was doing decent miles, I would never EVER use a cossie again.

If its a short drive then fine!

Ooh someone's cranky again

I'm enjoying the debate. Anyway I remembered what I wanted to say now.

Can you get the closed loop and wasted spark on any stage Saph and would I not be better off with Stage 1 for a daily driver?

Yes you can get it on any stage for the wasted spark, great mod and greatly improves the ignition system and all the gremlins it can cause, and hence makes it more reliable

Closed loop cannot be run on mega lairy cams ( BD14 or over on the exhaust side I think) , but will be quite happy on anything pretty much, so you might as well have stg 3 etc or whatever you fancy as the closed loop will give pretty much the same MPG on any conversion . I have it on a T4 car with 850cc's and std cams etc, and it does 30 MPG+ according to the previous owner, and lots of people on here have had great experience with it.

Cossies are perfect for daily drivers if you look after them, obviously it will need more care than a brand new fiesta 1.4, but if you get a good one then it won't be a problem IMHO, I used my small turbo escos every day for 6 months without a problem

I would say it is a big debate, everyone has thier own opinions on different cars... Good to get lots of peoples ideas

Its not though you pick a car you like, you test drive it, then you decide weather you really like it enough to buy it. The other stuff like "is it suitable for what i want"i just commen sense stuff that obviously some of us dont have. If you listened to everyone's opinions about cars you would never buy anything cause everyone has a difference of opinion.

Personally i would say i cossie can be used as a daily driver cause i did it for over a year, BUT and its a very big but when it broke down with head gasket failure i had use of another car thus my comment if you want something like a cossie etc you really need another car to fall back on.

I hear you Alps, but I just like getting input. I'm more along the lines of gathering opinions, seeing how they match my own and deciding my final shortlist.

My big thing with the Cossies is that they are quite dated but on the other hand it does seem to be becoming the best option for me I think.

Cheers Wil

I am biased of course, but for what you want the cossie seems the perfect solution to me, and a good rear driver will be a great fun toy, shame a lot of people on passionFORD arn't that passionate about fords and will disagree
