This UK model is only £6995, slightly over budget but well worth the little extra if you can stretch to it.

http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk...=&max_mileage=

Theres also plenty of import twin turbo's within your budget.

The Supra would be great if it was a manual. Not sure about such high miles though.

Had an MR2 before and it was a whole world of hurt

helps when you look at the right car specs
they listed as 6.0 to 6.3 standard

supras are perfectly fine as autos, doesnt spoil them at all, but still think a 6k supra turbo will be trouble for you.

and if an MR2 was trouble for you (an incredibly reliable car), id just quit right now.

Again.....without wanting to sound rude mate, I'd definately be taking into consideration possible repair costs should the worst happen - its all very well being able to afford buying the car in the first place, but look what happens when it all goes pear shaped for whatever reason - you've already experienced that first hand!!!

The reason i said integra type-r is

1 they dont break to often
2 you could get a GOOd 1 for the money he has
3 they are a decnt car that anyone can drive fast
4 you would have to be a pretty big bellend to crash or break 1
5 he needs he above 4 point judging by the last 4 points

Aye I love Supras but just seen a quoted mpg figure of 17 - 20 which is no good for me. I'm ideally looking for something closer to the 25 mark. I will be driving the car about 300 miles a week.

Stav, I looked at the figures on Parkers for the UK car. It said 197bhp and 7.3 0-60. Only going by what I read....

MR2 was trouble because I bought a shit one off ebay. Wouldn't do it again. Was fun learning how to change the exhaust though

Please folks, while all advice is appreciated, don't think I haven't learnt anything this last year or that I am certain to be cursed!

why not go test drive the cars you like when you get the cash??
or would you buy a car without driving it and on the opinion of others?
not trying to have a go just some folk like the way a certain car drives and others hate it

Doggers.

Seriously look towards a new diesel of some description.

But do NOT buy a 5 series - if you do i will have to sell mine for fear of embarassment

I looked into the 5 but I hate driving diesels!

Rad, I'm shocked at that. surely that can't be right? The Skyline lads say the RB25 engined cars are good for about 23mpg so I thought the RB20 would piss that at a minimum?

so let me get this straight, you want a reliable, good on fuel RWD turbo car for 5k

erm...... DONT WE ALL

the only way i can see this happening is getting a job that give a company car,,,,, would earn nice cash too and keep the 5k

most people with high powered cars dont actually drive them fast and so that might be why they get good fuel economy,,,,, and the others are just lying to tell the world how great there cars are

i can get better milage on my bmw on motorways,,,,,,,, when im in traffic but as i bought a car to drive how i prefer to i get shite fuel economy as cars do that at 130ish,,,,, 325 diffs aint geard for it either

company car and fuel card is my sugestion

SR20DET, Different to Skylines

I think its a 50ltr tank in a GTiR and doing my trip i use just over half a tank so its gotta be about 30ltrs

http://www.torquecars.com/tools/uk-mpg-calculator.php

I typed in , 120 miles, £1.20 30ltrs used, comes up with 18mpg!

4wds are way worse for economy than RWD.
Gearings way worse for economy than on a S14a.
Aerodynamics are way worse for economy than a S14a.
Engine shares the same designation (SR20DET) but shares almost no similar components at all, they not even interchangable without a ton of work.

So comparing them isnt really wise.

Either way, talking about fuel economy on fast cars is a stupid thing regardless Mr Smoke, 20mpg or 25mpg, its not much difference, and not that amazing.

I still aint swapped my Clio 172 back over for my Bora yet after the festive period so I've used it to get to work in these past couple of days - computer reckons 32-35mpg over a 20 mile urban trip!!!

You don't like diesels?

Yet diesel is the way forward - where else are you going to get 240bhp from a 3 litre turbocharged 2 tonne bus that will happily sit at 145mph all day long without exploding AND still return 45mpg

You are in serious need of blinker removal surgery

They don't 'feel' any different.. the only difference is a slight whistle from the turbo and a grrrrrr noise up top.

why dont you just go out and buy something and stop wasting everyone's time on here. This must be at least the the 5th post like this i have seen from you regading a new car and every time you just go out and buy whatever you want anyway(which is what normal people do anyway).

Every car bee suggested to you on here you find something you dont like about it so just go out and buy something and if you dont like it sell it and buy something else

DogSmoke, youll get 20+mpg from manual supra mate. And you can get an import twin turbo in manual for your budget. Dont worry about the miles as long as it has a decent service history anyway. Job done. You said you loved them and they fit your criteria perfectly.

Thank you very much Alps. For your info, I am trying to evaluate the cars against each other and will find faults with each inevitably. I thank you for your help but please do not make judgements about my character when you clearly do not know what you're talking about.

Also for the record, it's been a LONG time since I asked about cars on here.

Clearly dont know what i'm talking about?

I suggested an integra type-r

Very reliable
good on fuel
6 seconds to 60
14.5 1/4 mile standard
nice recaro interior
nice example can be had for your price range.

Whats wrong with that advice? it seems to suit you said you were looking for.

ITR is a great shout.

Best handling front wheel drive car of all time possibly....... plus Jap reliability, and a bit of a cult classic into the bargain.

FWD, and I would never have another performance car that's FWD, but that's one of the few that I would definitely go for if I had to.
