Default need help on buying new car {engine rattle}

ive been doing my own taxi service for 8 months now and im looking to buy another car ready for next feb as mine will be knackerd by then as its L reg..

the thing is ive been to have a look at a 52 plate astra estate very clean car with what thay say only 55,345 miles no service history to back this up. it does have 2 stamps saying it had a 32,000 mile service and a 53,000 mile service this one was done in june this year...

now then no wear on seat pedal rubber's or gearknob but on 2 o clock of the steering wheel its warn bad but only on this part not all of the steering wheel, i started it up and left it run for 5 mins there was a rattle or knock when i gave it a rev to 2000 rpm this happends as soon as i go to rev it it then goes, it's allmost like reving a ford that has the timming out

is the engine rattle or knock common on new vauxhall

what do you think he wants £3,695 for it

1: as above walk away sounds big endy to knock like that try holding the revs between 2 and 3k and listen for the knock

2: thats expensive for a 02 astra estate, you will be better off getting a dti estate or a zafira dti

should get a reasonable 2002 zafira dti for 3k ish

then come see me when you want the digital miles wound back yearly (i do a few taxi drivers cars lol)

ive got a 2002 zafira diesel here you can have for 3k in silver , you are right about the pumps it is quite common, although if you know the right people you can now get them repaired cheaper, a chap in poole repairs the electrical side of them for us for £150

what i was refering too is the fact that taxi drivers regularily wind them back

how about something like a picasso hdi? hdis are good engines as long as cambelt changed the only real other faliure is the crank pullys and now there only £50

ive also got one of them too but its a 51 plate hdi but done 170k mind you only want £1600 for it

Ill agree about the Hdis being good, Ive had a 406 hdi for a year now and done 40 thousand miles in it. I regularly get 55 - 60 mpg out of it and its a 110 bhp model
Only thing on the hdi is the carank pulley and in tank fuel pump can let go and sent filings up into the high pressure pump and fuck the pump, Just like mine has, Only 150 for a recon though

'now then no wear on seat pedal rubber's or gearknob but on 2 o clock of the steering wheel its warn bad but only on this part not all of the steering wheel'

It's probably worn there because its been used as a taxi before, and the driver only ever had his right hand on the wheel resting his arm on the door card as he cruised for punters.

Any nasty rattles and run for the hills, there's always another one out there.
