i used to remove em with a impact gun

my thinking was the short sharp shock treatment was better than loads of pressure with a breaker bar

Trouble with that is that you'll get thirsty.

ive done a few of them for garages around this area, i always end up taking the top off the plugs, and battleship welding a nut onto them...the combination of heat and a big nut normally gets them out, well it hasnt failed yet!

very very common problem with this engine btw...make sure you use heaps of copper grease afterwards.

If all else fails im going to crack the top off and hammer on a slightly smaller socket and get the big bar out to try and break them free.

wont work ive been there...... another thing you need to watch out for is if you smash the internals of the plug the electrode will fall into the combustion chamber, so it would be head off anyway, be carefull!

and if the nut part of the plug breaks off it will leave the thread in the head, heat is what you need to break the corrosion seal that has been formed, sometimes even runing the engine for 30mins before can help....

get the big bar on them, and just make sure you dont drop any bits down the bore, so crack them off first by half a turn, then get clearing up the mess before you pull them out.

the last guy i saw try that did snap the nut part of the plug off ,and had to remove the head.... these plugs get properly corroded in the head

and once the nut bits broken you is fudged they are only thin walled dont forget...

If he doesnt try it, he will have to remove the head anyway, so has nothing to lose.

Getting heat on them would be a good plan too, unlikely to make a massive difference, but enough to be worth a try, so run the engine first if you still can.

the welding a nut idea works. and you need the metal part of the plug in place and not snapped off to do it get it cherry red with the mig, count to ten and undo it.

if ya stick the bar on it and snap it off you havent got a choice then...

only speaking from personal experience here if i had a penny and all that

fookin cast iron heads eh
