people want EVERYTHING for peanuts

but i'm searching and assking everywhere to see if i can drop that price, even if it's only 20-30 quid

yup, if you wanna buy something, you want it cheap, if you wanna sell it you wanna get a good price for it

my car was up for sale for 6 months roughly, only on here and the RSOC but it went for a really good price for me (and a good deal for him i thought) just have to wait till the right buyer comes along or just sell your car for less

there are good cars out there, jus take boschmans saff, if it was AS mint as he described, i couldnt understand why he was struggling to get 6.5k for it

OK

Lets say you see a car for £5495.................

What would you be wanting to pay for it?

EVERYONE has a price they are willing to pay even before they see the car.....unless you have a 100% perfect car (ie Concours imho) you have to move on the price

Definitely favours the buyers at the moment. I've got one of my cars up for sale just now, but I'm also looking for a car for my sister and I feel a lot more confident as a buyer than I do as a seller. I'm watching cars that aren't shifting then phoning up people with offers to see if they'll bite. Going to see one tomorrow which is £800 less than what it was when the guy first advertised it around 4 weeks ago. I'm hoping to knock off another £200. On a £3000 car that's no bad shooting.

If you fancy a nice RS2k I've got one for sale. Might haggle a wee bit, but not much.

its not quite that black and white......the car might be good value at £5495 and the seller may not move

but if it was a window price, ie. at a delaers and was up for 5495 i'd try and take the car for 5k.

one of my pet hates though is people who ask for the lowest possible price you'd take, then try and haggle you down from that

You wouldnt like me then

I always think that if someone tells you a price....no matter if they say thats there bottom price....they will still go lower. I have done it many a time.

But i am a person who ALWAYS turns up with a bundle of cash....wave that in there face and it does wonders, Rather then saying i will be back next week

I'm the same, always have the cash at the ready, especially if the car has been sitting for sale for a while. Most people tend to sell a car as they've bought a new one. If they can't shift the old one, then they'll be struggling to pay for the new one so need the cash.

the car sales game has been slow for virtually all of this year.the weather in summer killed it then and it hasnt really recovered.
now xmas is coming so people are saving money for that.

definately a buyers market at the moment-bargains to be had.-
just look how well priced my cars have been to sell them.no xmas for my kids( )

reminds me of a funny story, when i sold my old series 2. i had it up for sale for £1700 on here cos it needed a new door and tailgate.

the kid came to see it, looked around it, test drove it , then said "right i think i'll take it, would you take an offer on it?"

i said "ok" waiting nervously

"he said, how about £1680?"

i nearly wet myself, but kept it together, and he was chuffed cos he had £20 to filll it up for the journey home

i think 'wreck' may be a little extreme, kid who bought it was xr2ikid2005 or something???

had a dent in the door and a rotton tailgate, other than that it was a good useable car that i had owned for almost 2 years and it never gave me any probs

If it was a Porka GT3 the full price, If it was an FSO Polonez I would offer about £2.20.

What a stupid question

interesting...

I have just been offered £6600 for my clio trade- the same car is 7400 or 8000 ish on the forecourt..

I think 6600 is a bloody good deal.

Be fair though Mark- you're like me- its kick in the teeth time everytime you view a car and if you cant kick em in the teeth- go and view one that you can do... unless its a rare car and theres not many to choose from.

Just picked up another Fiesta to replace my shitter of one.

Advertised for 375 on an N plate with full MoT but no tax. Good nick, said to him i'll give you £200 for it

Bagged it for 275 in the end

The seller wouldn't go below £300, I wouldn't go over. Pulling the wad of cash out soon changed his mind though when he realised I wasnt messing

The amount you can barter down depends on who is selling , if there skint your gonna get a cheap car if there not skint your gonna have to pay near the asking price

also the sort of car your buying , if your buying a 1.8lx mondeo there are hundreds so you can haggle , if your after somthing a bit sort after you are going to be lucky to get much off .

I have just sold my escoss track car , and an rs500 i have in for sale and didnt move much on the price and had no probs at all getting what i wanted saying that if i didnt get what i wanted i would just keep them until i did as i wasnt desperate to sell

Buyers market, can't shift my sisters car for love nor money

How about that deals on wheel show when they follwed people selling a car. the peeps turn up, like it then offer 100 notes more than it was up for

that had seen the previous weeks auto trader, when it was up for more, that'll teach the tight bastered not to pay 2 quid for the latest trader

Its always a buyers market imo well the buyer always has the upper hand as they have the cash.

Im just going to keep my car till next year as im in no hurry to sell up, and as jay said nothings selling at the minute, people are to busy looking for that e-bay bargain instead of the proper car

The cars are worth what you think there worth, obviously you haggle a little but if the cars what he says it is then you should be more than happy to pay the asking price as your there looking at it and you new the price before you got there

Selling cars is shite ( no offence jay, paul ) total shite and i f*cken hate it but i so love buying one as i call the shots, i`ve got the cash, but selling is shit as you get time waster after time waster
