Default Audi quattro transmission

The Audi V8 (circa 1990) has quattro running gear
The Audi quattro coupe (circa 1984) has quattro running gear

Whats the difference between the two?
Are they the same mating face?

Ie could you bolt the v8 into the quattro coupe and it fit?

i think they did a couple of different boxes for the V8...aswell as an auto option.

you'd have to find which particular gearbox is fitted to each car i'd imagine...i'd be very surprised if you could use one from the V8 though...the quattro name just refers to the fact it's got 4wd capability in some way, shape or form.

Yeah they did 3 boxes in the audi v8

5 speed man
6 speed man
4 speed auto

What I want to know is if it would bolt up to the same box as a 2.2 5 cylinder would or not though, both engines were used in the same series of cars at various points, so it seems possible.

The o1a and o1e gearboxes will work, the later coupes (the S2 shape ones) had an o1a, I'd guess the ur quattro did too.

this link might help http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2547581/3

I've got no idea how Audi gearbox codes work, but I reckon the '1' is to do with the bellhousing pattern, no idea about the letters though.

V8 gearbox codes are AWW for the 5 speed. and CBM AND CBN for the 6 speed

non of the coupe quattros share the same box in codes, but that should't matter, rear diff set up appears to be very diffrent also in your question about how the drive train differs

Im not worried about the rear end if the box will fit the V8, as the rear end just needs to match the front (ie be the same ratio diff, like 4.11 or whatever)

Nick, At least with the V8 it sits centrally!

I know what you are saying about the weight over the front end, but the reality is that these cars still do manage to handle very well.

Hmm, manual v8's are a bit on the rare side, lol

I think I know everything I need to now from the links, but will get back to you if I get stuck

Its just a project a friend of mine is considering, so may not even happen yet.

UR haveing a laugh surely ? no pun intended

these cars originally in competition handles awful, understeer was horrendous, they had no centre diff, so unless you were on the power or at slow speeds they handled like shit
