Turbo info req … say hello to sooty ?
Can someone tell me if sooty deposits are normal in a turbo inlet housing?
Only I started to pull me mota apart today n noticed sooty deposits in and around the inlet housing aswell as it's impeller blades of the turbo.
Also a few of the blade bodies seemed to have shiny edges? whereas most of the others where blackened which seemed odd?
Does that seem right?
Cars using a std stg 3 2wd mota with T34 on greens if it helps.
btw, none of the boost hoses were blackened?

Some cars have the breather oil fumes exit pipe connected to the air filter or inlet
manifold which can feed back oil fumes/drops during hard cornering or
if the rings are wearing or just high boost.
Most people leave this to atmosphere.
If not, I would say the thrust bearing on the turbo is leaking.

It breaths into a breather tank from the n/s block vent plus its rocker cover, then returns are per to the o/s block return. At no point does it return to the inlet
